This is the tallest building in North Dakota at 18 stories. built of limestone, it replaces the old territorial capital which burned in 1932. It is one of 3 skyscraper Capitols in the U.S. it sits on many acres of land, which are beautifully manicured. on the Capitol grounds also sits the State Heritage Center Museum recently remodeled and expanded... Had a wonderful 45 minute tour of the unique somewhat modern capitol. Interesting that Senate, House of Rep. & Court House have live broadcasts of daily goings on.

We had always thought that North Dakota's State Capitol Building was a bit odd. It was a pleasant surprise to tour the capitol and find out there's so much more to it. We had a wonderful guide that provided a private tour and explained the architecture, design, and history of the building. The observation deck on top is worth visiting... More

We didn't have much time to explore Bismarck, but I definitely wanted to see the state capitol. It was too late to go inside, but after seeing many state capitols, the high rise exterior of this capitol was certainly a surprise! The grounds though were lovely and it provided a great place for a walk and to stretch legs sore... More

The 18th floor viewing windows are fun for all ages. The walls tell the history of the building (and state) in photographs. The grounds surrounding the building are nice to walk around, too. There's plenty of free parking, and it's easy to just walk right in to the building.

It is not your typical state capital building but it is interesting. Enjoyed touring the inside. Worth a stop if you are interested in these kind of things.

At first we could not figure out which building was the capitol building. We thought the building was just an office building. There is no dome, nothing fancy on the outside. Most of it really is an office building. The interior decoration is pleasant. The two chambers are interesting. The supreme court looks like one. What is really interesting is... More

On our continual quest to tour all the U.S. State Capitals, we took a trip to Bismark, North Dakota to check out their state capitol building. Sadly, I had heard a few derogatory comments about this capitol, about it not being a real capitol, but I feel they were WAY wrong. This is a gorgeous capitol and very unique. There... More

We took the tour with Marlan and learned many interesting facts about the building and North Dakota. A part time legislature meeting in the odd years for 80 days. What a novel idea. The building is pleading to the eye and not pretentious. Sculptures on the grounds are beautiful..
