The museum just got bigger! It has something for everyone to enjoy...dinosaurs, Native American history, ND history and even some on oil and energy! If you find yourself in the Bismarck area, this is a must see! It is easily self-guided and FREE so you can stay as long or as little as you have time. Well worth the stop!... More

Newly opened this center is a must to visit. Our favorite part was the native heritage life! The tour is easily self guided but any of the staff will answer questions with enthusiasm and knowledge. Each section follows a path that helps you understand North Dakota history. It is free! Plan to stay at least 2 hours. More if you... More

The expansion and renovation of the ND Heritage Center is very impressive! The dinosaur and mastodon displays are incredible! We had so much fun exploring all the old and new areas. The are a lot of hands-on exhibits which make it very kid-friendly. We had a great time!

Since I'd never visited North Dakota before, I wanted an opportunity to learn a little about the history of the area. Fortunately, the center was open on Memorial Day, a pleasant surprise considering it was a holiday and a Monday, which I'd discovered is often a closed day for museums. They had just concluded a program honoring area veterans, so... More

There is not admission to tour this brand new building located not far from the capital. There are guides in each area to explain the exhibits, and we learned so much about the unique characteristics of the state. There are huge replicas of several prehistoric animals, and there is lots of information on how the Indians lived in the area.... More

This museum has a little bit of everything. There wasn't a single exhibit that we skipped over. Great place to visit.

This was pleasant surprise. Given a gem rating in our AAA tour guide, it was definitely correct. Two exhibits were closed while we were there but the Indian history and prehistoric displays were worth a couple of hours. This worth a visit.

The place is not yet done so when I visited (SEP 2014) there wasn't much about the Euro-American impact on North Dakota. It is, however, soon to open that gallery and what is open is done very well. Indians, fossils, minerals. Well done!

Not all exhibits are completed or open yet but this is a large, modern, impressive facility that tells the story of North Dakota with pictures, audio, and interpretive exhibits. The docents are knowledgeable and helpful and you could spend many hours here exploring the many facets of ND's history. I can't wait to go back when it's fully open and... More

The new areas are nicely remodeled. Missed some of the traditional attractions such as the log cabin, police car, and horse to sit on. I hear they will be in the section that was not currently open. A good variety for kids and adults. Would have liked a few more hands on exhibits for younger kids.
