This is a wonderful museum with a huge new addition. Follows a lot of the history of North Dakota. There are now dinosaur displays. If you are in town and have time I would recommend going, and it is located on the grounds of the capital.

Took many field trips to the Heritage Center as a youngster. Have also visited since with family and then my husband. This was our first visit to the NEW Heritage Center though, and we sure enjoyed it. I was so happy that the "Smell a Bison" exhibit made the move. Sad that the honking geese and the egg exhibit did... More

Being a lifelong ND resident with many visits to this museum, I have to say that the new addition and total revision will shock anyone who hasn't been there in the last year or so. This is a first rate museum that can exceed most people,s expectations, I believe.

This is a FREE attraction. There are 4 galleries, some very well done others still need some improvement. Your kids will enjoy it - for about an hour at a time. But you can go back and they will see new things. Your parents/grandparents will likely enjoy it all day.

The expanded center is open and is really lovely. The new exhibits are really interesting with sights and interactivity for all ages. The dinosaur area is fascinating while those on Native American life continue as favorites too! It's good for a couple of hours at one time and many return visits. The shop is also very well done with some... More

The museum just got bigger! It has something for everyone to enjoy...dinosaurs, Native American history, ND history and even some on oil and energy! If you find yourself in the Bismarck area, this is a must see! It is easily self-guided and FREE so you can stay as long or as little as you have time. Well worth the stop!... More

Newly opened this center is a must to visit. Our favorite part was the native heritage life! The tour is easily self guided but any of the staff will answer questions with enthusiasm and knowledge. Each section follows a path that helps you understand North Dakota history. It is free! Plan to stay at least 2 hours. More if you... More

The expansion and renovation of the ND Heritage Center is very impressive! The dinosaur and mastodon displays are incredible! We had so much fun exploring all the old and new areas. The are a lot of hands-on exhibits which make it very kid-friendly. We had a great time!

Since I'd never visited North Dakota before, I wanted an opportunity to learn a little about the history of the area. Fortunately, the center was open on Memorial Day, a pleasant surprise considering it was a holiday and a Monday, which I'd discovered is often a closed day for museums. They had just concluded a program honoring area veterans, so... More

There is not admission to tour this brand new building located not far from the capital. There are guides in each area to explain the exhibits, and we learned so much about the unique characteristics of the state. There are huge replicas of several prehistoric animals, and there is lots of information on how the Indians lived in the area.... More
