We stopped at this home after going to another home tour. This one was encouraged. And we are glad we went. It was interesting to see how different they laid out and used their homes 250 years ago. It is a marvel the wooden structure is still standing. Part of that is upkeep. Our guide was very knowledgeable and tried... More

Most people know Wilmington N.C. for its Civil War history, but this house goes back to the Revolutionary War with it being taken as headquarters by British generals. The house is in excellent condition and the docents are very knowledgeable and eager to share their information. The gardens are very nice with some nice surprises. A great way to spend... More

Interesting history of the property from being a jail to being a townhouse for a businessman then a family. Lots of period furnishings.

Buy the ticket to go to all 3 houses, you save that way. I'm not a big history buff so it's just a house to me.

This was part of the three house ticket we bought at Bellamy Mansion (basically buy two tours get one free) That made this tour a little better since it was discounted. Our guide didn't know much about what she talking about. When opening the floor to questions we were met with a blank stare. No pictures were allowed so we... More

We just wanted a little thing to do one morning and I had read that you can walk around the gardens without paying to go thru the house so that's what we did. They were very nice.

This is the oldest home of the 3 homes open to tours in Wilmington. Built near the middle 1700's. Many or possibly most if the furnishings they believe original to the house. The tour they give is very good. I was lucky to have a tour guide that not only was well versed on the families that occupied the homes... More

Well maintained place. Tour lasts about an hour. Gives a glimpse into the lifestyle of a wealthy self-made merchant in mid to late 1700's in colonial America. Lots of interesting little pieces of period furniture so be observant. Cornwallis was supposed to have occupied this house after retreating from Guilford County battle in his way to his fateful loss in... More

I'm an admitted history buff, so I love taking the opportunity to explore old mansion homes and historic sites when I'm in an area that presents them to me. But by the time I leave them I don't usually feel like I learned anything, because most of the information I receive is stuff I already got from history books, or... More
