Sad to see such an old and tired package at a historic site. Four stars though for the greeting and earnestness of the one man at the interpretive center.

This earth fort was an interesting part of civil war history and worth the visit. You need to visualize it as a good part is no longer there. Still, the staff at the visitor centre will take you on a tour of the grounds and it is worthwhile. The story of the cannon that was taken from this place and... More

A really great place that is booming with loads of Civil War history that has been forgotten! The tour guide was exceptional and made the short tour very interesting. Not good for little kids, should be interested in the Civil War era.

I'm not really into earthen forts but reading about the history in the museum was interesting. The walk around the fort was fun (and picture worthy) but for me the best part was the stroll along the beach in front of the fort. Low tide is the best time for that walk so you can see the Coquina rocky formations... More

As a part of our recent visit to the USA, we stayed in the lovely seaside town of Wilmington in North Carolina... We discovered many wonderful activities and places, not the least of which was the historic Fort Fisher. The museum here is very well set up, and the stories within are great to investigate... the grounds are great for... More

I love history, so I like visiting Civil War sites. I have been to many in the south, but Fort Fisher is the most beautiful. It's a great spot to bring your young children and pets because it's on the ocean and there are a lot of grounds for a picnic etc. Across the street is a pretty little gazebo... More

Great historic place to visit and walk around. Love the free museum learning lots of history and the beaches are beautiful. Wonderful place to bring the family and the aquarium is right there too.

Inside the visitor's center it was quite dark to see what you could purchase in the shopping area and in the museum area. They had a lot of things to see and read but the darkness made it a little more challenging. Sadly only about 1/10th of the fort is left to see but they had signs so that you... More

Between the museum, battlegrounds, cannons and informational signs - what a way to walk a child through a history lesson. In January each year they have their reenactment with actors in period clothing, tours, encampments and firing of numerous cannon. Great all year.
