After soccer in Wilmington yesterday we went down to the historic waterfront and I took my son to the Cape Fear Serpentarium. Nice facility, great animals (if you like venomous snakes) all presented, at least in theory, from a scientific standpoint - much of it ruined for me by a big prominent display of "tinfoil hat" conspiracy theory garbage -... If you have an interest in reptiles, and are in the Wilmington area, this is a must see. Excellent variety of snakes and some crocodilians as well. GIANT snakes, and a superb collection of venomous species. The displays are some of the best I have seen in any zoo or serpentarium. Inexpensive entry fee but they do not take credit... More

The Serpentarium is a wonderful place. I had a lot of fun. I like snakes, but people who aren't exactly keen on going should also go. The variety of snakes is incredible. It had ample info for each snake and even had a five-skull rating systems based on how deadly the snake was. It had a lot of different snake... More

My three sons and I spent a wonderful couple of hours here. A great place to visit even if you don't have budding herpetologists.

Full disclosure: I didn't go with my husband and kids to the serpentarium. I refused, on account of the fact that it's a place full of live, venomous snakes. No thank you. So this review is coming to you from my two children and husband. The kids absolutely LOVED getting to see the snake feeding. They thought it was creepy... More

This is one of the best known in the county. There are exotic snakes and local snakes to be seen safely. I am terrified of snakes, but I could walk in and appreciate the beauty of the reptiles and not want to tear out of the building screaming.

The Serpentarium has other reptiles of equal interest such as the "dragon lizard" as my son called it. The place is much larger than it looks from the outside! The variety of serpents is impressive. My favorite was the huge yellow Burmese Python.

All the reptiles you see on animal planet can be found here. My son who used to love Steve Irwin was so excited to come her and see so many of the beatiful snakes featured on his show. I enjoyed it as well. Gaboon vipers were my favorite.
