Great downtown, can't wait to go back!

What a pleasant surprise...historic wilmington was full of arty shops, good restaurants, and great bars...right on beautiful riverfront. You can park and walk everywhere.

My family and I really enjoyed walking through the historic downtown area of Wilmington. The pastel colored houses with the white trim and the fences with the 'beware of dogs' signs. The neighborhood really felt like you were walking back in time, which made me think of the movie 'Pleasantville' with Reese Witherspoon. I would've loved to have had a... More

You really need a knowledgeable guide - we learned awesome facts like seeing the two remaining "Sears & Robuck" homes side by side, the oldest home that is uninhabitable at the moment with structure issues too big for anyone to tackle (sad), and seeing old hitching posts and stationary mounting blocks outside a home from the horse and buggy days!... Hundreds of historic homes on tree-lined streets. Most are beautifully restored, complete with charming gardens. Historic markers scattered throughout the area explain significant events. Compares favorably with Charleston and Savannah.

We have been to the historic downtown a number of times with friends and family. It is a great place to walk and see the sights, restaurants, and enjoy the views along the river. The historic area is relatively small and you can see most of it on foot. I recommend parking at the pay lot on Market and Front... More

Nice places to eat and drink but limited entertainment unless there is a festival in town. It still a nice place just to hangout to people watch.

Has everything you could want in a southern historic downtown. Great restaurants, nice bars, dive bars, antique shops, candy shops, horse drawn carriage rides. Fun for families, young adults or retirees.

We spend one evening and the next day walking around the Historic District. Reminded us of being in Europe. Really enjoyed it.

To spend time in the historic district is to see southern charm and history at its most appealing. Restored old mansions include both the Revolutionary and the Civil War eras. Magnolia trees in bloom, azaleas flourish and spanish moss completes many a mature landscape surrounding this district. Not to be missed!
