Going to the river was great. Went on the river walk and just spent a lot of time there. Loved learning about the river and the wildlife in the downtown park. Definitely a lot of history and it makes downtown!!

The river is certainly an overlooked attraction. There are several tour boats that are pretty cheap that will give you a ride and a brief overview of the river and show you historic landmarks in the area. The snacks on the boat were good and the drinks were priced well. Great for families with young children.

We, ILM, (= airport designation f/Wilmington, NC) was just rated by USA Today as one of the 10 Best River Walks. Actually I think we were rated #1 ! Anyway, you will enjoy your leisurely stroll along our Cape Fear River. Plenty of places to stop in f/coffee, a light snack or a bathroom break. Easy walk, wheel chair accessible... More

Wilmington has its fair share of water. Nestled between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean it is a great place to live. Families will love exploring the battleship, the Cotton Exchange and the Riverwalk..

The walk down the riverfront with easy access from downtown Wilmington is a must-do if you happen to be in the area. One can walk up to the Coast Guard ship berthed in the area, watch ships sailing up and down river.

Because I spend about two months in late summer/early autumn on Topsail Island, NC, which is about 30 miles north of Wilmington, I am in and out of the city frequently. I have enjoyed the variety of cultural offerings, fine restaurants and the practical shopping venues for food and household necessities.

The Cape Fear River flowed just behind the hotel I stayed at in Wilmington, NC, in the historic district. There were lots of benches that you could sit on and enjoy the view. There are also walking/running paths along the side of it. I saw a lot of people strolling along as well as hoofing it. Saw all kinds of... More

You can walk the river walk to watch the river. There is also a few ways to go down to the river from the historic district. From the river walk you can see the USS North Carolina ship on the other side. I didn't do it, but I think it's possible to take a tour on the river on a... More

The river is nice and the wildlife is abundant. The history of the river and downtown Wilmington are evident all along the river. Worth a stop to see.

Cape Fear river current is very swift and strong. River is only a few feet from Riverwalk surface. Can look across river and see majestic USS North Carolina. Areas along river in historic district are clean and inviting.
