The Cape Fear River is a beautiful area. If you have the luxury of being on the water you will definitely enjoy your travels. You will get a nice mix of ecosystems and wildlife. River does not have a high amount of traffic. Picturesque downtown provides a nice spot up river to stop for some nice local cuisine or a... More

First off the river is much cooler (with breezes) this time of year. The Riverwalk is just a small portion of the Cape Fear River. Once you get under and past the Cape Fear bridge, the journey becomes quite interesting with the shipping docks and working areas. The river was dredged to 45 ' depths and a rice plantation actually... More

The river is beautiful and full of wildlife and never boring. Whether by boat or watching from shore, it is very impressive and strong!

Going to the river was great. Went on the river walk and just spent a lot of time there. Loved learning about the river and the wildlife in the downtown park. Definitely a lot of history and it makes downtown!!

The river is certainly an overlooked attraction. There are several tour boats that are pretty cheap that will give you a ride and a brief overview of the river and show you historic landmarks in the area. The snacks on the boat were good and the drinks were priced well. Great for families with young children.

Wilmington has its fair share of water. Nestled between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean it is a great place to live. Families will love exploring the battleship, the Cotton Exchange and the Riverwalk..

The walk down the riverfront with easy access from downtown Wilmington is a must-do if you happen to be in the area. One can walk up to the Coast Guard ship berthed in the area, watch ships sailing up and down river.

Because I spend about two months in late summer/early autumn on Topsail Island, NC, which is about 30 miles north of Wilmington, I am in and out of the city frequently. I have enjoyed the variety of cultural offerings, fine restaurants and the practical shopping venues for food and household necessities.
