What a feast for the eyes. We loved seeing all the original antique items in the general store. We wandered around the store and purchased a few items we have never seen anywhere else. We would go back again.

This was our first time getting to take our little girl through the candy barrels at the Annex. We enjoyed letting her choose some goodies and talking to her about the different choices. We noticed a playground in the distance while there, and we came back the next day to explore that. The Valley Crucis Community Park is just beyond... More

Another great photo op here too! VINTAGE lovely must do! Just soak it in, with snow and all the goodies from yonder years! Just as I remember! Get your favorites candies, and goodies bagged up for a day of roaming and don't forget to buy Cradle to Grave, the CD feature local artist from the area, I now love Bluegrass... More

If you like history, you will love the mast general store. Original and still has the same working post office since 1883.

My family and I stopped by the store on a recent weekend stay in Banner Elk. My 7 yr old niece loved it (especially all the candy!!!). She declared it "the best day of my life". It also provides the adults an opportunity to share with the younger generation memories of their childhood. I purchased a Black Cow candy bar.... More

If you ever get to Boone, NC, make sure you visit Mast! It is a beautiful old building built in the 1800's. They have all kinds of things for sale. And lots of old things to look at, from the post office to an old wooden casket upstairs like ones they used to sell there.

This is a store for everyone to look through, maybe even buy something, prices are a little above what some places charge but not much. You have to explain to your kids that this was the first superstore, post office combo. It has a little of everything and for a while even sold wooden caskets. Everything is on display, the Post... As a summer resident in the area, I always enjoy taking family and friends to Mast General store. It's a must see. The trip along the winding road off Hwy 105 into Valle Cruis is one of the most scenic mountain adventures I have experienced. Weekends often have locals picking and grinning on the back porch where you can sit... More

This is the definition of nostalgia! Both the original and annex Mast General Store showcases a great variety of items from clothing, shoes, candy, old toys, home/kitchen decor and general merchandise. There is truly something for everyone in these stores. It's kind of like Cracker Barrel retail portion but 100x better and bigger. Definitely worth a visit if you're in... More
