It is a lot of fun walking through the many isles of nostalgic items. They even have a working post office! Many games and children's toys that will bring back memories for anyone in their 40's. Get a bottled coke and a pack of peanuts and sit on the back porch while you are there!

While my wife loved the shopping experience, I enjoyed (sorry, shopping isn't my favorite thing in the world) looking at the historical displays and old stuff they have up on the top shelves. You can spend at least an hour here and will enjoy every minute.

Take a drive out of Boone off Hwy 105 into the serene countryside and you'll find Valle Crucis. The journey is well worth the beautiful scenic views along the Watauga River. Down the road you'll find the historic Mast General store, a fascinating, fun adventure back in time. Take in the creaky floors, strumming banjos, barrels of candy (check out... More

At first I just thought this store from the outside was a junk store, but once I got inside it was wonderful! This establishment has such huge variety of items! This store had everything for any age group. They had these large old fashioned barrels that held candy that you could buy by the pound. It was around 6 dollars... More

It is a tourist trap with over priced items in the new store. 2/10ths of a mile down the road, the old general store is a look back into history. Creeky board floors, Markings on the wall from water level heights during past hurricanes that came through, re-production tin signs on the walls and hand dipped ice cream along a... More

The Mast is a really neat store in the heart of Boone. The staff was kind. There is something for every age. Though the products are quality, the pricing is sometimes expensive.

Wae had a great time exploring both the newer annex store, with ALL the old barrels of candies/goodies, as well as jewelry, kids things, etc, and then were directed to the Original Mast General Store. A literal treasure trove of goodies, jams, jellies, biscuit and other mixes, flavored oils, vinegarettes etc. Also, tons of cooking/bath supplies, aromatherapy, unusual kitchen supplies, rugs, towels,... We happened to come across this store by accident but nothing prepared us for what we found there. It really was an Alladin's cave offering a huge range of goods. There were a number of sections within the main store and more buildings out the back. My partner takes size 13 shoes so he was over the moon to find... More
