Great place to walk your dogs, watch the boats, just dream

Walked around today, off season so no ferry's going over to the island, but so relaxing, great place to picknic.

I lived in Swansboro for a few years and got over here a few times - each time it was too crowded for my liking - tourists. Not bad during off season with your own boat but there are other little islands to go to.

To get the beach part of the park you have to take a boat ( the park has a shuttle/ferry boat service at a reasonable rate ). Once you get off the ferry you will walk thru the sand dunes to the beach. This beach is like stepping back in time as the beach is wild and undeveloped. If you... More

Remember when coming to the park that there is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the beach, your best walking shoes are advised for this partly paved walk. Relatively smaller crowds come to the beach as compared to public beaches. Keep in mind the time it takes to walk back to the ferry for your return home trip and... More

We often go to Hammock Beach State Park. We enjoy the many exhibits and activities that they have to offer. We enjoy a short ride on the ferry to Bear Island and once we get off it is a short walk to the other side of the island and find a pristine beach and island habitat. It is also a... More

This beautiful state park has been preserved next to the ocean, with public access for boating, canoeing, kayaking. A ferry takes people to Bear Island for seashells and enjoying a great day at the beach. It's also a great place to hold 5K runs.

Our guide Trisha took us on a great paddle to Bear Island. Great way to learn about the sound and see wildlife.

We took the ferry from the ranger station over to Bear Island. The island is really pretty. From where the ferry drops you off, its about a half mile walk to the beach. There are restrooms, outdoor showers and picnic tables. You can also camp here. When we visited in off season, we saw very few people. We walked down... More

We have camped on Hammocks Beach several times in the past years and just visited to see how it has changed. It now had a nice building with staff that is knowledgable and helpful. This is a great place to visit with family.
