Very enjoyable experience! The ferry was prompt and the walk not bad at all. Most unspoiled beach I have experienced, almost overwhelming. Dolphins, water birds, sea turtle nests, we found several intact sand dollars and a ray egg case. Lots of fish, crabs, etc to see in the water which is clear. We had a large section of people free... Reserve Ferry to Island in advance! We enjoyed the little Museum with lots of History about the Beaches the Fauna, Flora & Animals indigenous to the area. We were going to take the ferry but decided we'd come back anther time when it wasn't so hot. It's a half mile walk from Ferry dock across rolling Dunes with very hot... More

Loved the $5 pontoon ferry boat ride thru wetlands, uncrowded unspoiled beaches, . Park service has nice bathrooms, showers, concession stand, picnic benches, even an area right off beach for getting out of the sun for a bit. You can camp there too, but it would likely be rough camping. Tent, etc. But oh! To see that beautiful beach by... More

Not a lot of people there, thank goodness. We wanted peace and quietness. You will have to walk approx. a half mile from the where the foot ferry drops you off to the beach.

My husband, toddler son, brother and I took the Ferry over to Bear Island, cost $5/person children 3 under free. Overall was a fun day, with the exception of the long walk to the beach in the blazing sun. The beach is beautiful with the large sand dunes(which you can not climb of course), the isolation was not any different... More

We live near this state park, and we had never been there. Decided to take the kids out for a day at the beach. Ferry was more expensive than I thought, but there is an option for "season passes". Beach was a long walk from the ferry drop-off, but it did not disappoint when we arrived at Bear Island. Great... More

Hammocks Beach is a great family adventure. Taking the ferry out is just the beginning of the fun. Making a reservation for the ferry is a smart way to be assured you get out at the time you'd like. The beach is clean, the shelter/bath house is fairly new. My family loves this beach!

We have been a few times and always love it. Took our kids 11 & 5, and 3 yr old nephew. They loved the ferry ride. The walk to the beach isnt bad.... the weather just gets humid in the summer and sometimes the little ones are wore out after playing at the beach. Perfect place to find sand dollars.... More

Just another great spot to visit when coming to Swansboro. Short drive from Downtown Swansboro, NC to the Hammocks Beach State Park to pick up the Ferry. My wife & I have 2 children (12 year old daughter & 9 year old son), and we love to get to the Ferry Pick up area about 30 min. early so we... More

Great beach if you want isolation. Very clean. Not a good beach if you are a serious shell hunter. Employees drive up and down the beach and collect the largest and nicest shells before the ferry arrives with tourists. The employee in the concession stand had a bag of huge shells from the morning's collection.
