The beach is truly beautiful and clean. The facilities at the beach are very nice. Do not take the ferry on the weekends! They are supposed to pick up passengers every 30 minutes, but they don't ADD MORE FERRIES during the BUSY TIMES, so even if you are at the dock before the half hour, you could still wait for... More

Beautiful scenery. Lots of bugs at night and some wildlife rummaging through our stuff but if you have a good tent and you get inside it by sun down (9pm?) that shouldn't affect you much. We experience rain, sunshine and lots of wind. All of this made for a fun and exciting experience. We went with young kids so the... More

Catch the ferry over and bring your cooler for the day. Being a State Park you'll need to watch the alcohol not to get ticketed. That's the only negative. Great undeveloped beach with great shelling and there are bathhouses. Short and scenic ride over on the ferry. If you want to do a kayak experience it's an easy paddle over.

Just getting to the beach is fun because you go on a nice, scenic 15-20 minute ferry ride. Once at the beach, you do have to walk 10-15 minutes to get to the other side where the beach is. The park facilities are nice. The beach is very scenic and once you walk 50-100 feet away from the entrance, the... More

Great secluded, natural , and undeveloped beach! Good surf fishing there. But, at low tide, it is LOW TIDE!!! Took Boston Whaler up into a little inlet there, and got grounded...Had to take the ocean back to get back to Bogue Sound. 151/2 ft. Boston Whaler. Never been so scared in my LIFE! The beach is the best, if you... More

We've kayaked here before and took a birding cruise today. We saw all sorts of wonderful birds and found the coastal marshlands so scenic and relaxing. The park owns 3 islands, all of which are beautiful. Bear Island has magnificent dunes and a great beach. You can get there by kayak or ferry. The center on the mainland has a... More

We put in at Swansboro and paddled south to Hammocks Beach. Fascinating sights on the way- watched wild birds, watched commercial crab harvesting, and explored the water trail off the intercoastal waterway.

So glad we went here and would love to go back. The ferry ride was really nice and a great price. We enjoyed meeting the park rangers for their turtle talk. Everyone we met was really nice. We did not see any turtles or turtle nests but we did see some really large insects. It is a walk from where... More

My husband and I camped here overnight. It was an incredible and really unique experience to sleep in a tent while hearing the waves right outside! The island is only accessible by boat, so after the last ferry of the day leaves with the non-campers, you basically have (what feels like) your own private island. Even though there are other...
