Quiet beach

Spent the day at Hammocks Beach...took a ferry ride over and enjoyed peace and quiet on the serene beach. Soft, flat pristine beach with clear water. Relaxing and very enjoyable.

Our guests at La Casita love Hammocks Beach! We do too! Being from Swansboro, I've been to Hammock's beach too many times to count over the last 50 years. The beach is an unspoiled jewel on the NC coast. Families with children love the ferry ride to the beach. Young couples and families with teenagers will enjoy renting Kayaks from... More

Most interesting place to visit! Learn the history by walking around the welcome center, then take the boat ride over to the beach. You will have a short walk to the beach so pack light. The beach is beautiful and not usually to crowded. Great place for family or couples to enjoy the day. Notice the times of the boat... More

For only $5 round-trip, you can catch the ferry that leaves from the visitor center (which has exhibits and toilets and seats on a nice deck overlooking the water) on Hammocks Beach road every hour from 9:30am and enjoy a 15-minute journey through the inter-coastal waterway out to this secluded, long beach. You'll share the trip with happy campers and... More

Been to Hammocks Beach many times. A truly great beach. Take the pontoon ferry for a short 5-7 minute ride and your on the island. A bit of a walk to the visitor center and beach but it's well worth it. Some of the best fishing and shelling around. Great sand and swimming. Bring plenty of sunscreen!

I camped here on a Saturday with my spouse and we found the beach to be among the best in NC. It is comparable to the Outer Banks National Seashore and is completely undeveloped. The primitive camp sites are very private and there are dunes between each camp site. The beach is almost deserted after the last boat returns to... More

Lots of folks overlook the free things in life. We were traveling up the North Carolina Coast and we're looking for a place for lunch. We saw the sign for the state park and drove in. Had a picnic lunch by the waterfront. The offices have very interesting history exhibits. Site has Convenient Kayak launch area. Ferry over to Bear... More

Love the ferry ride to Bear Island through the waterway… gorgeous. Once you get to the island--it is a one-mile hike through sand to get to the beach. There are no services there. We are talking just a restroom facility…period. So if you like rural camping on a beach--this is a dream.

the State Parks Rangers are very friendly. you must take the ferry to Bear Island because the beach is worth the small fee of the ferry. you can stays where is crowded or just walk on the beach until is quiet. great beach for shelling or surf fishing and just catching sun rays.

If you are truly wanting to visit a scenic beach without much human tafficking, this is the place. Be aware there is a ferry that you must pay to board. It's a nice little ride to a very long beachy walk to the actual beach. My advice: don't bring much to carry. It can get a little tough the way... More
