We love this park! Getting to the Bear Island might be a bit difficult because the ferry is small and gets sold out way ahead on busy weekends. The ferry ride is 20 min and is very scenic. Then there's a 15-min walk to the ocean side of the island. There are bathrooms on the island, water fountain nearby and... More

We very much enjoyed the shelling cruise from Hammocks Beach State Park. Our guide Rachel, who works for NCCF, was very friendly and shared some great information about the area and the shells we would be looking for once we arrived at Bear Island. We went to a secluded part of the island and away from the main ferry drop-off... More

Great beach, great waves, warm water, no crowds. A bit of a trip to get there (ferry + walk), but well worth it.

This is our favorite place to go to the beach whether it's by ferry or preferably by our own boat. By boat it allows us to get away from all the tourist and enjoy a very quiet day at the beach. The beaches are clean long so it is good for children to be able to play without the risk... More

We came upon a small signage on our motorcycle trip, which had no mention of what was in store on the turn down a dead end street, which had trailer parks and RVs on either side. What a great surprise to find a nearly secluded beach kayaks for rent and a ferry ride to Bear Island, where the incredible white... More

First time to Bear Island after hearing about it from different groups of friends over the years. My sister and I went for the night to go camping while she was in town from MD. We took my dog, he loved it, too. The primitive camping was so much fun!! One note about the dog situation, because I didn't see... More

This beach is very tidy and great for swimming, collecting shells, or sunbathing. We saw many people fishing; however I did not see anyone catch anything worth keeping. We had a wonderful time watching the wildlife on the beach. There are refreshments such as cold drinks and ice cream available for purchase and a decent bath house facilities. Very few... More

The beach is truly beautiful and clean. The facilities at the beach are very nice. Do not take the ferry on the weekends! They are supposed to pick up passengers every 30 minutes, but they don't ADD MORE FERRIES during the BUSY TIMES, so even if you are at the dock before the half hour, you could still wait for... More

Beautiful scenery. Lots of bugs at night and some wildlife rummaging through our stuff but if you have a good tent and you get inside it by sun down (9pm?) that shouldn't affect you much. We experience rain, sunshine and lots of wind. All of this made for a fun and exciting experience. We went with young kids so the... More
