My husband and I love playing this course and always schedule a round here when we visit the Pinehurst, NC area. It's like no other golf we've played with unique hole layouts, blind shots, dog legs, elevation changes, etc. There are no houses on the course and it's very scenic and so much fun to play. We are looking forward... More

I've always loved playing there, but now with the new greens...WOW. They really did do an excellent job growing the new greens and sodding the collars. If you are waiting for the new greens to mature, there is no need. My only complaint about TR is not really their issue. I think the Carolina Golf Association has rated the course... More

Dear Rich, Couldn't have said it better myself. The greens conversion has exceeded our high expectations and the conditions are the best I have seen in my 16 years at Tobacco Road. Thank you for playing and telling this forum about your experience. Good Golfing, Joe More

Tobacco Road Golf is one of the top 100 courses you can play per Golf Magazine. However for the last two months you couldn't play it as they were replacing their greens. They installed the increasingly popular Mini-Verde dwarf bermuda. I had a chance to play the course yesterday and the new greens are fabulous. I live nearby so have... More

Dear Jerry M. Thank you so much for the positive comments about the new greens and glad you noticed a few of the other details we took care of during the summer grow in. We couldn't wait to open back up and show the greens off. We are grateful to see customers again. More

I played this track a year ago.have to admit standing on the first tee was unlike any first tee I have ever been on and I have played a lot of golf courses! That said....I loved it! Very different but that is the beauty of it ! Was only confused once...stood on a tee box and you have to hit... More

Thank you for the glowing review. It is pretty cool that you would post a review a year later. We are busy getting the course ready for re-opening on September 1st after being closed all summer for a greens conversion to the new Mini Verde Bermuda. Please come back to play on the improved putting surfaces! More

tough target golf but target greens too--the palina grass is in abundance on this tricked up track --so much fine golf in the area don't waste your time getting penalized for surviving the sand only to arrive on awful greens

Hi Jeff, If you're skipping it because you don't like the design then I can't help you there. If the greens were not up to your standards, then we would like you to come back after the conversion to Bermuda in September of 2014. This has been a bountiful year for Poa annua grass; otherwise known as Bluegrass, and it... More

Just played today. It was... different. I've never seen. Course laid out like this one. On the one hand, it's unique and good eye candy. On the other, it's kinda confusing if not frustrating at times. Pluses... It's fun to look at and fun at times to play. It's challenging but doesn't overly penalize you as you might think for... Love it, definitely love it. As Alister Mackenzie wrote in "The Spirit of St. Andrews", "A good golf course is like good music or art; it is not necessarily a course which appeals the first time one plays over it, but one which grows on the player the more frequently he visits it." Sure, Tobacco Road is not like other... More

I would have given this an excellent rating but the greens were a little bumpy. This is a very visual course with undulations like none other I've seen. The one drawback is that there are a number of blind shots but nothing too outrageous. The starter asked if we have played the course before and when I said we hadn't... More

Tobacco Road is truly the most unique golf experience I have ever had. Every hole is tripped out with crazy approaches, bunkers, greens, you name it. Surprisingly, if you play smart and pick the right clubs, it is very playable. I have shot 77 and 81 both times I've played. Go, bring a camera, and enjoy.

Hi Ryan, thanks for the great review. You discovered exactly what the late Mike Strantz was trying to achieve when he built Tobacco Road 16 years ago and that is to overload your senses with eye candy while rewarding good shots. If you can overcome your own mind at The Road, the challenge becomes much more manageable. Please come back! More

I have been play all of mike strantz's golf courses in the south for years now and this one does not play like other golf course. all I have to say is WOW! this will be my seventh time playing "the road" and it still feels like the 1st time! we truly lost an artist in mike strantz (the designer... It's great that so many people have been touched by the late Mike Strantz and his work. He certainly left us a gift and we will do our best to take good care of it. Look for some upgraded conditions on the greens for this Fall! All the best Stuart! More

Take your camera. About every golf hole a picture. Not your everyday level course. Nice people. A real test of golf.

Dear Prentiss, thanks for the excellent review. It is especially rewarding when our staff is praised for being "nice". We appreciate our customers and want to make sure the service is up to the same high standard that the golf course has been able to achieve over the last decade. Please come visit again and tell your friends! More
