I love golf but I'm not very good at it. I was here with a group of friends for the camaraderie but the difficulty of this course was clearly out of my league. Waste area everywhere, blind shots abound , most difficult course I have ever played. Somebody told me this is the 6th toughest course in the US and... More

When you visit the Pinehurst, you have plenty of fine courses to choose from but you won't find another course like Tobacco Road. The course is definitely a peach when it comes to conditioning, but where it deviates from all others is in its layout. I have played all over the country and never experienced anything even remotely like this... More

Dear Mr. Clark, It sounds like you "got it". We actually expanded the putting green to make it into what you see today. There are some putts at Tobacco Road that you don't get at any other course so we wanted the putting green to reflect that. We realize that you're not going to play "The Road" every day, but... More

GReat course. But you must stay on the fairway. anything else could be trouble. The first hole is a little scary because your target is a little gulley that you must either hit or lay up or you will hit the sides of the hill. if you make it through then it is a blind shot to the green. Very... More

Dear Mad155, We are grateful that you had a fun time and found the course in great shape. The BBQ sandwich is my favorite but make sure you get plenty of slaw on it. After all, Tobacco Road is a little south of that Mason-Dixon line:) More

Have played this course numerous times, and thought we'd play again and check out the re-done greens. We didn't notice that much of a difference with the new greens. And actually, there are tons of pock marks (from ball marks) all over the greens from the grass that didn't quite grow back, so aesthetically, the greens don't look as nice... More

Dear Silver & Black Attack, I am sorry that your experience was less than satisfying at Tobacco Road. I too, like a “hands off” approach when I am playing a golf course. Unfortunately, the creative and visually stimulating design that Mike Strantz blessed us with can come with some challenges; speed of play being the biggest one. We had 165... More

I have been regularly making the hour drive to this Mike Strantz gem since it first opened and it is well worth it. The man was truly an artist; every hole is a signature hole. The course is always well conditioned and the staff are excellent. There is no rough, no OB, no rakes (all sand is waste area), one... More

I Love this Course. Anytime I'm in Sanford it's a must to play. I tell everyone here in CA that if your in the area of Pinehurst to go play the road. With the addition of the senior tee's it makes it more friendly for us older guys. The new greens are very nice. Can't wait to get back to... More

Dear Dain L, Being a relatively short course, we were a little unsure that a 5th set of tees was warranted but one of our player assistants was very adamant on the idea. We are very thankful that he was. I hope there will be a "3rd, 4th and 5th+ time around" as well! Thanks for the kind words! More

Driving into tobacco road you don't even have a clue your arriving at a golf course. Then you pull up to a nice cabin in the woods which is beautiful inside. Pulling up to the first tee is one of the coolest and craziest golf tee shots I've ever seen. The greens rolled phenomenally. I'd have to say this is... More

Hi Mike, I am so glad you had a great time. You described the experience we try and provide to our guests. I can only assume the "dream come true" part would have been to break par? I hope to see you soon. Hit em straight! Joe More

My husband and I love playing this course and always schedule a round here when we visit the Pinehurst, NC area. It's like no other golf we've played with unique hole layouts, blind shots, dog legs, elevation changes, etc. There are no houses on the course and it's very scenic and so much fun to play. We are looking forward... More

Dear Lgolfer, We too miss Mike Strantz, the architect of Tobacco Road and Tot Hill in NC and the two gems not too far from you at Caledonia and True Blue. We are just thankful he was around long enough to see his designs get so much praise from the public. Next time you're up in this neck of the... More

I've always loved playing there, but now with the new greens...WOW. They really did do an excellent job growing the new greens and sodding the collars. If you are waiting for the new greens to mature, there is no need. My only complaint about TR is not really their issue. I think the Carolina Golf Association has rated the course... More

Dear Rich, Couldn't have said it better myself. The greens conversion has exceeded our high expectations and the conditions are the best I have seen in my 16 years at Tobacco Road. Thank you for playing and telling this forum about your experience. Good Golfing, Joe More

Tobacco Road Golf is one of the top 100 courses you can play per Golf Magazine. However for the last two months you couldn't play it as they were replacing their greens. They installed the increasingly popular Mini-Verde dwarf bermuda. I had a chance to play the course yesterday and the new greens are fabulous. I live nearby so have... More

Dear Jerry M. Thank you so much for the positive comments about the new greens and glad you noticed a few of the other details we took care of during the summer grow in. We couldn't wait to open back up and show the greens off. We are grateful to see customers again. More
