The Salvo beach was a changing world in and of itself! While we frequented it mostly during the day and enjoyed the salt breezes and the sand between our toes, the surf, shells, crabs, and sea birds, we also realized that it was something entirely different at night, with the magnificent star show and crab performers. The posted rules and... More

What can I say the beach is big and no crowds. We stayed at Tern to The Sea Colony Drive. Very nice house one row back. Now the dunes were tough on my 70year old mom. cactus and hot Sand wear water shoes. Loved the house everything we needed. Loved watching the sun set sO wonderful

In our experience, this is one of the very few beaches left that isn't crowded . We have visited several times and every visit is so very pleasant, with just a few groups scattered along the beach. There is the remnant of a Civil War shipwreck visible in the water at a point just off shore. That gives us a... More

Salvo beach day use area is a great alternative to the ocean side beaches. The water is calm and good for younger kids. Lots of water sports like wind surfing, kite surfing ect. There are bathrooms but not much else for amenities. Come prepared

Saw an awesome sunrise from the Salvo beach, just a few mins walk from our motel. Best place to have a peaceful beach time.

We have been vacationing in the Outer Banks for 5 years now but we have never stayed in salvo, this past summer was our first time in salvo and I have nothing negative to say about it. Are house was located on Colony Dr. On the "Surf" side of the island, the beaches where very clean but there was about... More

Salvo is a gorgeous strip of sand below Rodanthe as you travel down scenic Hwy 12, towards Hatteras. The beach is pristine, and not very well known, but for four wheel drive enthusiasts its a dream come true. Sometimes you are the only one there. There are no attractions other than the Atlantic and a convenience store or two, but... More

Visited and camped at the KOA in the Outer Banks, not only was the KOA accomodations outstanding and clean but the Beaches are beautiful, clean and not so crowded. If you like beaches and you like less crowds... definitely must visit the Outer Banks.

Our 1st trip here we had a house on the wrong side of huge dunes, even for our younger family with us, it was a trek to cross over and instead of going everyday a couple of times or more to the Beach, we were lucky to go once a day, and no late night strolls on the beach, this... More

I love this area so much more than the northern part of OBX. We were there in the fall, so it may not be the best representation, but it was quiet, quiet, quiet! I seriously counted 20 people as far as my eyes could see north or south. We walked for a couple miles south of where we entered the... More
