I love this area so much more than the northern part of OBX. We were there in the fall, so it may not be the best representation, but it was quiet, quiet, quiet! I seriously counted 20 people as far as my eyes could see north or south. We walked for a couple miles south of where we entered the... More

We rented a house in Salvo with 2 old college roommates of mine and their spouses. It is so peaceful in the Salvo area. A couple of stores, galleries, cafes and pizza within a short drive. It is a 20-30 min. drive north or south to a larger selection of food, stores, etc. But this is a wonderful location to... More

We visited the day use park on the Sound side, just south of Salvo. It was a great little park with picnic tables it is accessible by walking or biking from Salvo or by car. The hurricane hit it hard and the shower and bathrooms were closed while we were there. Excellent sunsets. You can kayak, fish if you know... More

Or what is the best and easiest way to bring all the gear to the beach?.....i guess drop everything off with the car....return the car to the house....and walk. Any advise is appreciated.... More

Peaceful, quiet, LOTS of beach to enjoy WITHOUT being "towel to towel". Our dog got to enjoy the beach for the first time too. Really amazing and not a tourist trap.

The beach towns of North Carolina's Outer Banks are remarkably diverse, ranging from the sprawling commercial developments of Nags Head and Kittyhawk to the isolated communities of Ocracoke and Carova. If your preference is for something on the quieter end of that spectrum but somewhere you won't need a 4-wheel drive vehicle just to get to the beach, then Salvo... More

We stayed in a house 1 street over from the homes on the beach or more accurately on this side of the huge dunes, my Wife & I are in our 50s & those dunes were one heck of a walk up then down the other side to the beach, & back again, that's the big & only downside to... More

One of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Salvo is hidden on Hatteras island, and a lot of people simply pass through Salvo, never stopping to see it's beauty. Sawgrass surrounds you, with plenty of area to drive 4x4 vehicles so you can get so close to the water. Birds are everywhere, fish are plenty, and this place is... More
