Reminded me of the board game, Hungry Hippos. Very unique landform. Worth visiting alongside Wave Rock. There is a pathway that links the two.

As far as geological formations go, Hippo's Yawn is definitely a poor relation to its superstar neighbour Wave Rock. But it is literally around the corner, so if you've come all this way to see the superstar, you may as well check out the Hippo as well. It's worth a gawk and a few snaps.

Drive to this parking area first as it is more isolated that Wave Rock. No facilities of any sort. The rock is quite close to the parking lot but for those with walking difficulties it may be a challenge to get to the rock. If you have a "petite" built you might be able to crawl up a chimney at... Very interesting to hear the history of Hippo's Yawn. Plenty of signs to read about the rock. Interesting to read about the aboriginal use of the cave.

After we finished our visit at Lace shop, we headed for Wave rock. Our 1st stop was at Hippo's Yawn. Big cave, we were told that the aborigines had used this cave to deliver their babies long time ago. Remarkable! It's a historical place, I believed! You can't miss it if you heading this way...to Wave Rocks - Hyden. Enjoy!... More

Another unusual rock formation just on the Caravan Parks door step. Lovley well worth the 10 min walk along the base of the rock.

Well worth the short trip from Wave Rock, especially if you have children. Our grand kids loved it, walked up into the mouth so the Hippo could eat them.

Hippos yawn on it own is average. It worth a look if your visiting wave rock, and is only a few minutes drive or walk from the wave, but after the wave it isn't as breath taking, though kids will find the similaritys of the rock to the inside of a Hippos mouth fun.

Like us,most visitors you talk to have never heard of hippos yawn but once you see it, I am sure it will stick in our minds for a long time. Well worth the short walk or drive from wave rock to have a look at.
