Having found this place on Trip Advisor we decided to visit . This was the best decision we made.,! The Observatory is in the mountains with little light disturbance . Filip knows his subject and is so enthusiastic that the evening flies by . The sky is so bright with the stars , the Milky Way that it takes a... More

You dont need to be an astronomy fan to enjoy this evening. Filip and Chantal are friendly, knowledgeable hosts who have the ability to bring the night sky to life, they show you the planets, the milky way and 'ET' . Whatever your age, whatever your lknowledge on the subject I recommend you to invest 2 hours of your holiday... More

There are lot of stars in front of your eyes, when you read a astronomy book you will see lot of drawings and patterns but it is still difficult for lot of us to understand it but when you talk to people like Filip at Sasteria they... Sasteria (Xasteria or Ksasteria in greek means "clear night sky") is an amateur sky observatory, run by a lovely pair, Filip and Chantal. Filip is the astronomy expert, willing to explain everything, while Chantal is the "quiet power", ready to assist and be closer to the kids. The observation program we attended started at 21:30 and ended around midnight, something... More

This is a must for astronomy fans visiting Crete! A Belgian couple, Chantal and Filip, run an art workshop and an observatory in the small village of Agios Stefanos. To reach it is an adventure by itself. For star gazing it should be dark, obviously, an driving the curved route is a great experience. We arrived in the area by... More

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to get squeezed in at short notice for a visit to Sasteria and we are so glad we asked! What a wonderful night. We both have a keen interest in the night sky but my girlfriend had pretty much never looked through a telescope before so it as an absolute treat for her.... More

In 2012 during our stay on the N-coast of Crete, near Retyhmnon. We where advised about the observatory by common friends. My wife booked the visit as a surprise for me. Due to my job I have a big interest in the stars, as they where used for century's for the navigation at sea. It was a 4 hour drive... More

Great fun, the owners were absolutely wonderful people who were fantastic hosts and teachers. Couldn't recommend it highly enough - we traveled all the way across the island late at night to go and didn't regret a moment of it.

This is one of those experiences that would be difficult to have without Trip Advisor... Unique, off the routine tourist path and hence difficult to learn about other than through a travel site such as this.... Our family including 2 x 11yo twin boys had an amazing night. We drove up to the village of Agios Stefanos to arrive about... More
