This hike is worth the effort. I am not an avid hiker, but am very fit and I felt this was moderate difficulty. We took our 8 year old daughter with us on this hike and she did well. The view at the top is breathtaking. The climb down is a little tricky as it is easy to trip over... More

I hike a lot and would rate this trail as moderate. The trail is around 3 miles to the top and 3 miles back down. It will take you around an hour and 1/2 - 2 hours depending on speed and stopping for photos. Almost all of the trail is covered under heavy trees and brush so don't worry about... More

This was an outstanding hike. It's a bout 6 miles round trip. The three miles to the summit are a great cardiovascular workout. It's three miles of uphill, a lot of it switchbacking. The view at the top of some of the Blue Ridge Mountains is spectacular! Our group stayed there for quite some time. We'd definitely do this again.

It's about three miles to the rock (which is actually past the peak and down a bit on the back side). The hike is mostly through wooded forest and has nice trees and plants. There are some challenging sections, but is manageable. Definitely worth the effort.

A great up & back hike....the view from the top is well worth the effort to get there. I'd certainly recommend this section of Pisgah Forest to experience.

We needed exercise and chose this trail for a hike and the trail has a decent vertical climb that gives a good cardio workout. There are some tree roots, loose dirt, and smooth rock but overall the footing is good. It was cloudy and we had a light drizzle at times so we didn't get the great view that most... More

A group driving up to Asheville for the weekend made this detour to do this hike and it was a great decision. The trailhead has a decent size parking lot and a map at the base of the trail. I believe from the parking lot it was 3.0 - 3.2 miles to the end of the trail with the best... More

We took this hike in October, 2014, during a week day. It was cool and sunny. We had the trail to our selves most of the time. Steady uphill climb for 3 miles, some areas fairly steep, and took several rest breaks. We are 60 and 58. The views at the end are wonderful. The hike is not necessarily strenuous,... More

I absolutely love Pisgah National Forest and enjoy any opportunity to hike the vast number of its great trails. I have viewed Looking Glass Rock numerous times from the Blue Ridge Parkway and have even passed the trailhead but never had the chance to hike the trail until recently. I found this hike to be somewhat challenging, with the altitude... More

I would rate this moderately difficult. It is up hill for 3.2 miles parts of the trail are pretty steep. Some parts you have to walk over big rocks, however for the most part a well maintained trail. Depending on your level of conditioning, allow up to two and half hours to make it to the top. The first time... More
