Liked that there was a lifeguard nearby. This spot was very crowded , but well-kept. Even the fiddler's crabs are harmless, just curious. Has a adequate restroom & shower. And the walkway keeps your feet from getting burnt. There is also a Notice of tides for that day & safety precautions.

If you don't have a 4 wheel drive, this is the place to go. Also, check out the campground beach. It's what everyone comes here for.

The Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach is a very wonderful place along the Atlantic seaboard. I have been to most every significant beach from Maine to Florida and this beach is uniquely beautiful. Since it is on a barrier island about 20 miles from the mainland accessible only by ferry, boat, or air, it feels wild and remote. The sand is white... More

The entire east coast of Ocracoke Island is one long beach. This one is close to town and has changing rooms and an outdoor shower. After parking, take the boardwalk across the dunes. You will come upon a pristine beach that goes on and on. Never crowded, warm water (September), lots of shells to collect, birds to see, a must... More

When visiting Ocracoke, you must experience ghost crab hunting after dark. Bring a flashlight or two and prepare to see the "night life" come out. We saw dozens and dozens of ghost crabs walking around the beach and were treated to a lightning storm a few miles off the beach as well.

One of my all-time favorite beaches - very clean. A crowded day here may have 50 people in view...walk a hundred yards up the beach and you may have it all to yourself. Great for shelling, fishing, walking, swimming, or sandcastle building. There is a boardwalk from the parking lot, and changing rooms/outdoor showers available.

I have been to the OBX a few times but just went to the beach on Ocracoke for the first time on this trip. It was great, plenty of sand/space for people to lay out without feeling over croweded. The beach itself is rather level so it is great for running or long hikes. You can walk for miles picking... More

The lifeguards have a very big job. The water is warm but can be extremely dangerous. My hat is off to those who watch out for our lives!

We visited the lifeguarded portion of the beach the day after we visited the beach by the private airport access. The first beach there were plenty of trucks along the sand, but it was still easy to spread out. There were not nearly as many vehicles on the lifeguarded beach area, but it was a bit noisier as there were... More
