Ocacoke Island is a great little place to visit. I've been here many times under all sorts of circumstances and the best advice I have is, be patient. The only way on or off is by ferry (unless you have your own boat). Check the schedule, earlier is better, and again, patience. Those ferries can only move so fast across... More

This is about the National Park Visitors Center across from the ferrys in the harbor. Small shop with lots of variety. As you tour the shop you can follow the history of the island and WWII events in pictures and words. Very interesting and we still visit after many year of visiting the island. Interesting items for purchase in varying... More

We took the ferry ride which was awesome but we got a later start in the afternoon. We toured the island which doesn't take a lot of time, especially on a Sunday. Ate and then headed back. The ferry said he wasn't going back out for two more hours. Not enough cars, so about 8 cars waited for 2 hours.... More

Friendly staff that will point you in the right direction when visiting the island. They will help you plan your route, depending on what you want to see and how you want to travel - by foot, car, bicycle.

Just stop in to say hello and pickup some useful information. If nothing else you can park in the lot, stop in to pick up a map of the island and then go stroll the shops on the street.

Staff were very helpful answering questions. We always make visitor centers our first stop to get the inside scoop on things and avoid potential blunders or wasted time. Lots of good historical background, maps and brochures for the island. The larger parking lot next door safely holds you car for the day if you drive there. As far as the... More

Can't miss it, first stop when you come into port. Nicely setup with historical facts and pictures. Hadn't been the other times we have been to Ocracoke.

Allow a full day just to travel to and from the island. Skip this island unless you plan to spend at least a night. We took the ferry from Cedar Island today. The first boat was too early, at 7AM, so we took the 2nd boat that left at 10:30. We had a nice lunch when we arrived at 1:00,... More

we stopped at the visitors center after hiring a golf buggy for a couple of hours. There is a whales head skull outside with notices not to sit on. The staff are friendly and there is a lot of information and maps as well as rest rooms outside, a must to start your visit or when you disembark from the... More
