Compared to other NPS visitor centers this one is a bit smaller. We enjoyed the ranger presentation about the history of the island though it was a bit hard to follow at times. We learned lots that we would have never known. The ranger presentations are not on a regular daily schedule so be sure to check the Outer Banks... More

The information in the center was extremely interesting. We caught a talk on what we thought was going to be the history of the island but ended up being a talk on the history of the horses. It was okay, but we got more information about the island in the center.

The visitor's center on Ocracoke Island offers helpful guides and information regarding things to do while there. I recommend making a stop at the center prior to sightseeing on the island.

Ignore what they say about the lighthouse and just drive there. The parking is only 15 minutes but you'll most likely be done in 5.

Took the ferry off the island to Cedar Island. You can make reservations ahead of time for this ferry and this is something we did during the process of planning the vacation to the Outer Banks.Arrived around a forty five minutes before departure time.Visited the visitor center to pass the time and enjoyed learning about the island. The ferry ride... More

To visit ocracoke is to travel in time. Nice people, cute shops. Laid back and then some. Rent a bike or golf cart and take your time. Take an early ferry is the best tip. Move at a slower pace and enjoy!

Ocacoke Island is a great little place to visit. I've been here many times under all sorts of circumstances and the best advice I have is, be patient. The only way on or off is by ferry (unless you have your own boat). Check the schedule, earlier is better, and again, patience. Those ferries can only move so fast across... More

This is about the National Park Visitors Center across from the ferrys in the harbor. Small shop with lots of variety. As you tour the shop you can follow the history of the island and WWII events in pictures and words. Very interesting and we still visit after many year of visiting the island. Interesting items for purchase in varying... More

We took the ferry ride which was awesome but we got a later start in the afternoon. We toured the island which doesn't take a lot of time, especially on a Sunday. Ate and then headed back. The ferry said he wasn't going back out for two more hours. Not enough cars, so about 8 cars waited for 2 hours.... More
