Worth a quick check out if you are visiting for the first time. This is where you get your beach access permits. Park staff are nice, and they offer programs.

Great people here. Services for your departure and return from the ferry ride. The staff on our ferry was the best I have experienced in a while!

I couldn't find a category for the ferry itself, so this will have to do. Yes, the visitor center is fine, but more importantly, the ferry itself is amazing! Fifteen bucks for a lovely 2 1/2 hour cruise from Cedar to Ocracoke Island? On a calm, sunny day as we had, it was a great, restorative break from our travel.... More

I was not aware that the ferry leaving the south of the island was less frequent that the ferry at the other end. Significantly! I don't know why this is not advertised more clearly. Staff were very helpful, but I ended up adding 200 miles to my trip because I'd missed the ferry that I needed.

Nice visitor center with everything you need before getting on the ferry to Cedar Island. The ferry itself was enjoyable and doesn't even seem like it takes 2 hours to ride.

If you want to know about the island, you must stop here. The staff is great, the history compelling, and the sense of time and place well worth it.

Compared to other NPS visitor centers this one is a bit smaller. We enjoyed the ranger presentation about the history of the island though it was a bit hard to follow at times. We learned lots that we would have never known. The ranger presentations are not on a regular daily schedule so be sure to check the Outer Banks... More

The information in the center was extremely interesting. We caught a talk on what we thought was going to be the history of the island but ended up being a talk on the history of the horses. It was okay, but we got more information about the island in the center.

The visitor's center on Ocracoke Island offers helpful guides and information regarding things to do while there. I recommend making a stop at the center prior to sightseeing on the island.
