Great trip at a low cost

We spent a few days in Ocracoke and when we asked at our hotel about getting a ride to Portsmouth Island they suggested we call this company. When my husband called he asked about going over to the island. The women that answered asked when we wanted to go. When he said that day she laughed and hung up. I... More

We had a wonderful day and enjoyed our trip. Be prepared to walk a long way if you start in the village and bring shoes you don't mind getting wet. Bring lots of bug spray too and a lunch or snacks to eat. The Captain went out of his way on the boat ride back to show us some birds... More

This is a must do boat tour!! The price is incredibly reasonable and the Captain is outstanding! Captain Donald (Austin) is a great guide, very responsible, easy going, fun, flexible, and full of stories! This boat tour operator has been in business for a long time! Depending on the time of year, issues can be: Sunburn! Heat, AWFUL mosquitos! Fall,... More

While visiting Ocracoke, we took a boat trip, operated by the Austins, over to Portsmouth Island. I didn't catch the boat driver's name, but he was very informative on the rides to and from the island about the local history of the islands and the inlet, Blackbeard, Beacon Island, and the style of fish-netting used in the area. We were... More

If you hate bugs and freak out at a mosquito bite, this is not for you. If you are sensitive to heat, this is not for you. If you always need to be in air conditioning & feel comfortable, this is not for you. But if you love riding ATVs on a lonely beach, seeing sea turtle nests, collecting rare... More

We expected just a ferry ride to and from Portsmouth Island, but got so very much more. The captain took us to the pelicans' island where we saw tons of baby pelicans (from the boat, of course). He also took us past Teach's Hole, the lighthouse, the house where he was born, and he shared the stories that went along... More

The boat tour is outstanding, and if you like history and a little bit of exploring, you'll totally dig this one. Our Capt. was Donald Austin, and I really liked this guy. He has tons of stories and knowledge, and the more questions you ask, the more you'll learn! He stuck around with us the entire tour, which we really... More

The Boat Tour itself is outstanding. $20 per person (no discount for kids). Tipping is traditional. Capt. Austin is a life-long islander and has personal connection with the last inhabitants of Portsmouth. The ride over on the skiff is a lot of fun, and Capt. Austin is very generous with sharing stories of Ocracoke and Outer Banks. He brought us... More

Taking a tour with the Austins was a great choice for our family. We were dropped off on the beach of Portsmouth Island for four hours and had a great time exploring the beaches with the kids. You can find no friendlier people on the Island and they are part of the history here so their knowledge is unsurpassed.
