The Marina rents dock space, has fueling options, and a small supply store. Part of the Marina is SmacNally's, which has good food and drinks. Mostly shaded seating available.

There are several charter boats coordinated by the Marina that offer both inshore and offshore fishing, as well as sound fishing. I have charted both the Devereaux and the Drumstick for offshore fishing. Good captains and mates on both boats. The gulfstream is not so far offshore here (25 miles) so the ride to a fishing area is much shorter than some coastal areas. A benefit of harboring on a barrier island!

If you enjoy fishing, they have a charter for you. Great way to spend a day if you are staying on the island for a few days.

So, the family is ready to do a half day rental and gunkhole around Pamlico Sound, pay tribute to Teach's Hole (where Blackbeard literally lost his head) and visit desolate Portsmouth Island. We look at the radar and the storm that we thought was moving east decided to head right for us. The chart was red and yellow all around. I thought we would be on the hook for a bunch of bucks for telling the marina that we weren't going to take the boat after all. They were extremely professional and we all sat around and talked about prudence and how some people would still wanted to go out, totally clueless of being in a shallow sound with a long fetch in a storm. Mike, the harbormaster/ manager was very cool as was the staff of Restless Native Boat Rentals and Stevie of the fishing fleet. We will definitely come back here and will rent a boat for several days, as I feel comfortable with the professionalism and knowledge of the staff.

I have always enjoyed my day trips to Ocracoke Island, truly a heaven on earth, when I make my annual spring pilgrimage to Hatteras Village. This year, I decided to spend my first night on Ocracoke Island until my Hatteras rental was available. The idea of sleeping and waking up in Paradise was something I truly looked forward to experiencing. I booked what I thought was a harbor view room for myself, a friend and my eleven month old golden. I was told that we would be on the first floor, which was fine with me for the ease of taking the dog out at night.

When we arrived to check-in, there were people sitting outside of rooms right in front of the parking lot. Three dogs were barking and one of the people was smoking cigarette after cigarette. When I checked in, I was told that the only pet-friendly rooms were these off the parking lot...no porch, no deck...just plastic chairs outside of rooms with a view of the parking lot. Exhausted from the drive, my friend reminded me that it was only one night and that the following day we would be in our beautiful, oceanfront beach house in Hatteras. We entered the room and quickly closed the door to escape the cigarette smoke. The room was a basic motel room with two double beds, a small table and a tile floor...definitely nothing special...definitely a disappointment. The windows didn't even open, which, of course was probably a good thing since the smoker outside practically lived in the chair just outside our room. As we settled in, we noticed that the floor near the sink was puddled. I wiped it and it puddled again. We ended up having to change rooms. The person in the office apologized, but never offered to give us a discount or anything. I endured the night, sleeping on a very uncomfortable pillow. When morning came, I opened the door to see that my island paradise was still there. As I walked through the village of Ocracoke as the sun was rising, I fell in love with my island all over again and vowed to return for a stay in the future, but NEVER to the Anchorage. I have been traveling with dogs for fifteen years and never did I feel as segregated for being a pet owner by being put in sub-average accommodations, not even when traveling through Mexico where they are not used to accommodating guests with dogs, as I did at the Anchorage. The rest of the place may be great, but, pet owners, check out the other pet-friendly places on this beautiful island...that's what I plan to do next time!

Anchorage Marina is located on Ocracoke's Silver Lake Harbor, pretty much the 1st thing you see on the harbor upon exiting the ferries from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter. You can get into the rhythm of the waterfront while watching boats coming and going. And daily, about 3 or 4 o'clock, the fishing charters begin to return, showing off their catch of the day. Most days we walk down to the Marina and watch the excitement. It is also a good place to watch a sunset over the sound and harbor. The past 2 years we were on the Island during the "Reel Nauti" offshore fishing tournament, adding an additional layer of enjoyment to the Marina experience. Do note, SMackNally's is in the Marina complex, providing a venue for eating and/or drinking a beer as you watch the Marina action unfold (reviewed separately).

Nice bar, plenty of umbrella for shade ( or in our case, rain)
First night, we did not know that kitchen closed at 7:00. Waitress got right to us and got the order for delicious seafood. Atmosphere was casual and friendly. And the view of the boats and sunsets were wonderful
Went back the next night, cause we could!

We had a great meal and conversation with the locals at the Marina. Greta deals on fishing charters if you have a group. The meals were fine and beer was cold. It was a beautiful fall day with blue skies and friendly staff, A great place to enjoy the island. Beautiful boats of all sizes. Come and do a little dreaming.

I really enjoyed watching the boats come in and drinking a beer or two. The food was good, nothing special.

Room on the 3rd floor was very nice with a 'picture perfect' view of the harbor. Very helpful staff with local recommendations. Would definitely stay again on next outer banks trip.

We stayed at the Anchorage Inn for three days and two nights. It was a perfect location for exploring the village of Ocracoke by foot and golf cart. Golf carts were available directly across from the Inn. We explored the village by golf cart, and then walked for the rest of our visit. The inn was clean, and the proprietor was friendly and efficient. We discovered a special offer on their website, and received a great rate when we mentioned it as we made the reservations. A repeat visit is definitely in our future.
