We can't come to Oak Island without making a stop to see the lighthouse. Granted we have never done the tour, but the view is spectacular from the road and across at the beach. Definitely take a moment to head across where you can also see Bald Head.

We knew about advance reservations to go all the way to the top, so didn't even bother about that but we were able to go to the 2nd level and get some background history on the lighthouse and see the inside. There are nice picture opportunities in the front of the light house and across the street there is a... More

It states that reservations for a tour must be made 2 weeks in advance. However, its free to visit the site though and the adjacent beach accesses provide excellent locations to take pictures from. Parking in the off season is easy and is about 20 feet away. The beach on the other side is definitely worth a stroll.

I climbed the lighthouse on Wednesday October 19th. I discovered the lighthouse a few days before my trip and emailed the staff at www.oakislandlighthouse.org to try to schedule a tour. Even though the site says you need to give 2 weeks notice to schedule a climb, the staff worked with my group, and added us to a tour already scheduled... More

This lighthouse is easy to get too. We were not able to go inside and climb to the top because you have to book in advance.

Enjoyed the laid back setting and just the overall feeling on this island. If you are looking for super excitement, you have come to the wrong place.

We loved it!!! We just climbed the lighthouse on Saturday Oct 4. It is volunteer run so off season you need to make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance. Go to their website at http://www.oakislandlighthouse.org. The tour guides shared many interesting facts. We went up with a 7 and 12 year old. Both did great up the ladders.... More

The lighthouse is not open to the public. You can look at it and take a picture and that's about it.

It wasn't open for climbing, but it was good to see it. It started raining while we were there. The beach walk with info was great.

We went on a Sunday morning so didn't get a chance to climb the light(future trip excuse). Since we started going to Oak Island they have added a very small parking area(3 slots) and a very nice wooden walkway directly across from the light. Makes a very nice venue for getting great pictures from the dunes
