If you like lighthouses, then this is worth the quick stop! Unless you make a reservation, you can't go up the lighthouse. They are also only open certain times. Great for photo ops and to say you've been there.

Just a quick trip to see it. Just wish the weather had been better for us. Love visiting this beach. One of my favorite coast to spend time at.

We went there on a Sunday, right when they were closing up but they let us go to the first platform. very nice people and very interesting lighthouse, brightest in NC, second brightest in the world, if I remember correctly.

Couldn't get into the lighthouse due to no reservations. They only do tours during certain days and times. Not much else to see other than that. Somewhat disappointed

We live in NC and have seen most of the lighthouses that our state has to offer. This was one we had not been to. The best time to see this lighthouse is at dusk. For the best photo opportunity go across the street on walking path.

Well, first of all me and my wife went to this lighthouse for the top level tour. The volunteers were wonderful and very helpful! This lighthouse has sailor steps and they are very steep. They tell you that about 1 out of every 10 do not make it to the top. I made it to the first level and stopped... More

This is a fully functional light house maintained by the USCG. We go in the evening, right before sunset. You can get great pictures plus there is a walkway out to the beach which rarely has anyone on it. It is really nice to watch the sunset or watch ships come in the the Cape Fear inlet. Very peaceful and... More

We made our reservations for 6 about 5 weeks ahead of time and were able to get a morning slot to climb to the top. If you are afraid of heights or claustrophobic, then this is probably not for you. You will climb ship's ladders to the top, where you will be met with outstanding views. I was nervous the... More

If you enjoy lighthouses, this is one to see!!! There is an awesome place across the street to take photos too. Parking is limited but it's doable. One thing to keep in mind - check the website ahead of time to see if they are open for tours. Though we love lighthouse climbing we looked ahead of time and found... More

The lighthouse is kinda cool. We didn't go in, but took pictures. Very interesting site. There's a deck path across the street where we got pictures of the lighthouse and ocean. Very nice area.
