Cataloochee is a smaller ski resort, but offers enough to challenge most skiers for the day. The lodge is undersized during busy weekends and wait times for lifts can be long. We've been coming here for over 30 years....sure do miss the big fireplace they used to have in the center of the lodge! Food is sufficient although pricey...

We bought season tickets to Cataloochee for the first time this winter. We enjoyed every visit, with staff who got us going with the right gear and and ski patrol that were visible. My youngest took a snowboard lesson and loved his instructor. In later trips to the mountain, the instructor not only remembered him, but encouraged him! We enjoyed... More

I loved the people that work there. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food is a little pricey but less than what you'd pay at a professional sports event. The snow was a little tricky for me because I'm use to the Rockies and fresh powder. I had a poor pair of boots that I had to change out. They... More

Over the winter I went to Cataloochee Ski Resort and had a blast. This was my first time snowboarding and purchased a private lesson. My instructor was very knowledgable and helped me master the basics very quickly, quickest he's ever seen. It is an excellent ski area for beginners and has a diamond slope for the experts. The only negative... More

This was the second ski trip ever for my family. My husband and kids are still learning. We went on a weekday because every ski resort, not just this one, is more crowded on weekends, and participated in the Kids Ski Free program. Beginner slopes were wide, lifts got you up fast, & rental was easy. Cat Trackers for my... More

We enjoyed our day of skiing at the Cat. Its so down home and enjoyable. For the money Cataloochee is our favorite Southeastern family oriented ski slopes. The lift lines need a little more management, but for the weekend crowds and the newbies, the lifties do a great job of getting you back up the slope as quickly as possible.... More

This was my very first ski experience....ever. And I would give it an "eh". We went on a Saturday and it was soooo crowded! The bunny slope was so packed people could barely move. And when there's a bunch of inexperienced skiers and snowboarders, it's dangerous too! I took a lesson around noon and the instructor was great and I... More

Considering this was my first ski trip, I have no basis for comparison, but... my biggest complaint is that there was no safe and convenient place for beginners to start. The "bunny slopes" were so crowded with kids, ski lessons, and other beginners that there was not much room for error... if you couldn't stop (which seemed to be the... More

Cataloochee is a great place to ski in the south. They do a good job making and keeping snow! The conditions were great and the staff were most helpful. The runs are fun! My kids learned quickly and had a blast.

As a family who has only skiied in Colorado, we were hesitant to even try North Carolina. But after the late January snowstorm in the Southeast, we couldn't resist the quick 3 1/2 hour drive from Atlanta to Maggie Valley, NC (skiied on a Tues and Wed). I believe most people who have a bad experience here have gone during... More
