This is definitely worth the price of admission. Everything, from the mile high swing bridge to the hiking trails and small zoo, was fantastic. The views from the bridge area are truly a sight to behold. Nothing like being above the clouds to give you some perspective. Be prepared for the drive to the top of the mountain...it is very... more

I loved the mountain, mainly because of the air & the peacefullness of it all. The mountain is famous for it's mile high swinging bridge, which is really a amazing view. The mountain also has a zoo & a place to shop for souveneirs. There are also great stops up the mountain for awesome pictures and some good rocks to stand... more

Grandfather Mountain was well worth the slight detour off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We walked across the suspension bridge and checked out all the animals in their wildlife sanctuary. The bears were so much fun to watch! We were there on 8/30/07 and the day was overcast. We still had good views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. I would... more

I should have paid closer attention to the earlier reviewer who suggested taking the Grandfather Trail only to McCrae's Peak, vice all the way to Calloway (rhyme not intended). The hike to McCrae gives you the full flavor of the trail with all the breathtaking views. Going the full way to Calloway just became an endurance test. For the best... more

The idea of crossing the Mile High Swing Bridge was a bit intimidating at first - especially when they indicate there is a maximum capacity on the bridge itself! It was well worth the $ and the trepidations. The wind was blowing strongly and making the bridge sing - it was great! To save $ you can bring a picnic... more

Wow, what a great day. The admission at $14 is well worth it. They are no hidden charges. You can cross the bridge (if you are brave enough), you can visit the "politically correct" zoo. Just enjoy the day in the mountains. Take a sweatshirt or coat, the winds are howling at the top! Everyone on their staff was incredibly... more

We visited Grandfather Mountain on July 5. First the admission fee using AAA is $12 per person which we thought was reasonable. Although some have complained about the cost we felt that it is well worth it. The place is well maintained. My wife and 17-yr. old son hiked to McRae Peak and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is about 2... more

I believe the price now to get in is $14. I've been 3 times and each time has been wonderful. If you don't plan to hike then I don't think the price is worth it. However, the hiking is the best and most thrilling I have ever done. I'm afraid of heights and yet this hike just drives me on.... more
