Max Patch used to be one of the best kept secrets in the mountains. Not anymore-go during the week if you can. It's true, the road is gravel, steep, and winding. It's also well worth the trip. It is a long 10 miles up a dirt and gravel road (give yourself plenty of time, you have to go slow), but when you reach the trailhead, it all becomes worth it. Take a picnic and spend the day up there, because once you get there, you won't want to come down.
I went here twice in one week....
