My family, ages 4-70, hiked up Whiteside Mountain during a recent trip to Highlands. We went up the easy way and down the difficult way. The two younger children, ages 4 and 5, did fine on the hike as did my 70-year-old dad. The views from the top are absolutely spectacular and well worth the hike. The trails are very... More

Wonderful hike through old forest which culminates in beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Great walk along the edge of the white cliffs. Guard rails are present. Parking is very limited so arrive early. Parking along the road is illegal.

Well maintained 2 mile loop, so even if your not big into hiking you can't get lost. The views are beautiful and there are several places where you can pull up a piece of rock and take it all in. My husband I are in the area a lot, and we tend to bring our visiting friends here when we're... More

This is a simple and easy hike for even the most inexperienced. The views are so worth the walk. Round trip is only an hour and a half.

This should only be done if your in shape to walk/hike to 500 feet, we took it slow and truly enjoyed this walk; this view along the way and at the peak is hard to put in words; just do it you will not be disappointed… take water and maybe a snack.. we met and talked some of the most... More

This is a fantastic and not too long hike up to the top of a mountain that has amazing views to multiple states. Whiteside Mountain in its' granite majesty is directly in front of you. The hike is off of Whiteside Road on the way to Cashiers. Volunteer a few bucks for parking in the Forest Service parking box! There... More

Such a great hike which isn't too hard for the young ones and elder ones. So many great Kodak moment places to take awesome pics.

Exploring several roads around Highlands and Cashiers, we read about Whiteside Mountain. Was surprised to learn it was the oldest mountain in the world (250 million years). Truly an amazing sight.

This is a fairly easy hike with a lot of beautiful views. Can't wait to go back! There are places where you can see Perigrine falcons.
