Located not far from Highlands, this offers a great exercise experience as well as fantastic views of the surrounding mountains if a clear day. Would highly recommend taking the hard/steep way up, and the much easier way down. Wife was really unsure if she wanted to take the hard way up, but kept saying what a great decision it was... More

Talk about a beautiful payoff for your efforts. Whether you take the road or the steps; there's big time views at Whiteside Mountain. Highlands, North Carolina is a hikers paradise. Don't forget your camera as well.

This is the perfect hike if you want a modest two hour hike with an amazing reward at the peak. We took the road up (not much road left after 40 years) and completed the loop down the path.

The hike takes about an hour. One half of the hike is a very traversed gravel path, which is not particularly "natural" but is nice for walking with a group, because the path is wide. We like to go up the steeper ascent first, which is a more natural setting and a little more interesting and athletic. If you are... More

This is a bit of a challenge for the older or very young person, but we made it, and were glad we did. We were also glad we didn't meet any momma bears on the way, as they have their young ones with them at this time of the year.

Took this hike with friends recently and enjoyed beautiful views from several points. We had hit or miss clouds and sprinkles along the way but overall a beautiful day with views of NC, SC, GA and Tennessee at one vista. Well maintained path by local volunteers. Picnic tables and restrooms at the bottom of the path.

Good for city-folks like myself, who need a warmup. We didn't get the whole view, as it was raining, but we definitely enjoyed the climb!

Trail slowly inclines upward to top of mountain where there are several spots to stop and soak up the view. Trail circles around and the decent has several stairs to climb down. Seen several dogs and wish I hadn't left mine back at the cabin.

This trail is relatively moderate, with an elevation change of about 600 feet, 2.5 miles round trip. Good exercise, can be done in 1.5 to 2 hours easily. We walked up the wide, rocky trail to the left branch out of the parking lot, ending in a magnificent view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The mountain laurel is now in... More

Great 1.5 mile hike to the summit. View for days. Moderate hike. Take the more strenuous path on the way back down. Worth the views and it's all down hill.
