We took a morning hike on a summer day it was great! Temperature was perfect. Great views of mountain ranges and valleys. Falcons have been reintroduced to the area and have nests in the granite sides of the mountain. We were able to see some from the summit! People of all ages seem to be managing the climb well. Parts... More

A short drive from the Highlands. This is an easy to moderate hike (I call it more of a stroll). It is the best hike in the area. It is very short, only 2.5 miles. You do gain 600 feet elevation so this is not like a walk in the park. Scenery is beautiful.

A beautiful panoramic view from the highway is an excellent spot for photographers! Located between Highlands and Cashiers, but parking can be limited depending on the time of year you visit this particular spot!

Medium difficulty hike. The views are spectacular. We hiked to the summit and turned around retracing the hike. The rest of the path was closed due to maintenance.

My family, ages 4-70, hiked up Whiteside Mountain during a recent trip to Highlands. We went up the easy way and down the difficult way. The two younger children, ages 4 and 5, did fine on the hike as did my 70-year-old dad. The views from the top are absolutely spectacular and well worth the hike. The trails are very... More

Wonderful hike through old forest which culminates in beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Great walk along the edge of the white cliffs. Guard rails are present. Parking is very limited so arrive early. Parking along the road is illegal.

Well maintained 2 mile loop, so even if your not big into hiking you can't get lost. The views are beautiful and there are several places where you can pull up a piece of rock and take it all in. My husband I are in the area a lot, and we tend to bring our visiting friends here when we're... More

This is a simple and easy hike for even the most inexperienced. The views are so worth the walk. Round trip is only an hour and a half.

This should only be done if your in shape to walk/hike to 500 feet, we took it slow and truly enjoyed this walk; this view along the way and at the peak is hard to put in words; just do it you will not be disappointed… take water and maybe a snack.. we met and talked some of the most... More
