The trail was well maintained and the slow gradual climb to the summit was definitely worth the reward waiting at the top. The views were spectacular! Lots of great places to stop for photos . This was our first trip to Highlands and it was a great first hike. We appreciated the parking and available restroom facilities.

You have read the reviews. Hiking Whiteside Mountain is simply the best hour you can spend hiking in the Highlands. In season, it is heavily travelled so lots of folks on the trails. Located between Highlands and Cashiers on Highway 64, there is a parking area. As mountain hikes go, this is fairly easy, but it will get your heart... More

If you're going to hike, make it count. We took the more strenuous route up (the right) and moseyed down the easy one. I was surprised that the heart rate was up in about 10 minutes. I'm going to chalk it up to the altitude change, as there were couples coming down with small children and older people, but then... More

The trail was rated easy, but I thought it was more moderate due to the steepness. The views were amazing at the top. We thought we saw all the best view, but the more we walked, we kept seeing better views. We were there the last weekend in May and the Mountain Laurel was in bloom. Would absolutely recommend it.

Bring you camera and wear some nice hiking boots and you're in for some spectacular views along the Whiteside Mountain trail. If you take the trail loop clockwise, it's a much easier uphill trail in the beginning and somewhat steeper downhill trail toward the end...I like going "up" steeper trails rather than going down, so I recommend taking the trail... I've hiked whiteside a couple of times now. It is about 2.5 miles round trip (loop). If you have a problem climbing 'stairs' then I would suggest you start your loop going left instead of right (there is a small sign that tells you the 'right' direction is more strenuous. If you go left you will have long but easier... More

This is a beautiful hike and a must do while in Highlands. Like the other people have said- Hike the left path up. Take the rock stairs down. If you want a challenge then hike the right path with the rocks. Don't miss the loop at the top that takes you around to the stairs down. Some people - like... More

Super easy but not too short! there were 5 of us, in our 20's and 30's and we did this hike on Thanksgiving. There was snow on the ground and icicles everywhere which was awesome for crew from Florida!

Good trail, nice view at the top. Not too strenuous for this 65 year old non-athlete. Good parking with restrooms.

This is a 2-mile hike that is challenging enough to make it fun, but will not so hard to need ice packs afterward. Insider tip: take the path to the left. This hike is a big loop. By taking the trail to the left you stay on the hard packed trail for the inclines. The return loop are steps built... More
