Gradual climb. View after view once you get to the top. Trail circles the top of the mountain. Better to go straight when you start the loop and come down the other way.

Take the less steep path up, then make your way across the top to all the delightful vistas. I have seen the peregrine falcons by looking down, not up. Steeper path down (lots of stairs), or go back the way you came for easier walk. Just love this one.

This is THE classic NC mountain hike! Not too long, not too strenuous, fun for young and old! Beautiful views!

We hiked Whiteside following a morning rain so it was foggy. However that didn't diminish the hike at all! We took the steep way up the mountain - had a few raindrops mid hike - then took the easy way down. The fog meant we didn't see any of the views, but it was still a great hike.

Devils Pulpit is a challenging hike but you can go to the top of Whiteside and see great views without going that far.

If you are yearning for some mountain air, this is a little hike for the whole family. My daughter first hiked this trail when she was 2. (She looked a little like Yoda with a walking stick.) Although maybe not recommended for all 2 year olds, this makes a fun family outing and should be followed up with ice cream... More

Great hike with fantastic views. Easy and quick hike up with good and easy paths. Took our small beagle who had no problem getting up or down. We took the left path going up which is an old, logging road and took the mountain path down which gives the better and more spectacular views. There are park bathrooms on site... More

this hike was perfect- it was challenging but not so much that it felt out of our comfort zone. It's considered a moderate hike and I think that is accurate- not great if you have serious knee issues as there are some pretty steep steps. Great views and worth doing.

This is a hike youc an do over and over again with each and every guest who visits. The parking lots were packed and a bit crazy on July 4th weekend. There are two ways down so be advised that you have a choice to come back the way you went up or take a quicker steeper route. Lots of... More
