3rd time, I will come back every time in area. Whether ib find something worth cutting into a stone or not, it's a great time to spend the day. We take a lunch and enjoy the day. Richard is by far the greatest.

Well, we didn't find the two men working to be ornery - they just had a dry sense of humor! They were great! We enjoyed chatting with the people around us, and after we got our two buckets per person and orientation, the men came around often, helping, sorting, and checking. They were fast... They know what they are doing.... More

We planned our return trip from Florida to Michigan to include mining. I did a lot of homework on mining in the area and made the decision to take our group to Sheffield Mine. Yes they charge admission however you get 2 buckets of dirt, either native or rainbow dirt. From my reading many other mines have enhanced buckets not... More

Had heard about this mine on tv show and wanted to try it. Very disappointed. The place is run by two grumpy old men and you find nothing but tiny microscopic chips that are worthless.

I just had a couple hours before I had to drive to Knoxville and this mine was recommended by a friend (I'd already visited four other area mines). They did an excellent job of showing you how to process the extremely sticky dirt to expose the possible gems, and they have a fellow inspecting every sifter before you toss the... More

Had a fun morning mining for rubies and other gems. The helper was very knowledgable, helpful and patient answering all our questions. The gent at the counter was very helpful and had lots of stories about mining and the gems found in the area. Great place to spend the day- will go there again!

My folks live in the Franklin area and every summer when we visit we try and get the kids out to play in the NC dirt at a local mine. Sheffields has been a favorite of ours for close to 20 years and never dissappoints the kids. Whether you chose the Rainbow buckets or native buckets there is always fun... More

We had a great time searching for hidden treasures! We found over 60 carats of rubies in the native buckets. We also sifted through rainbow buckets and found all sorts of interesting stone and minerals. I can't remember when I was so dirty and didn't care a bit. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great way to spend... More

My wife and I went simply off the ratings on TripAdvisor and I must say they were dead on. We had a wonderful time it's 15$ a person for 2 buckets that take about 2 hours alone and you can get 2 more buckets for another $5. We couldn't have been happier, the help was top notch and they found... More
