OK first off let me tell you all out there that this is a great place to look for natural gem's.. I see a lot of negative comments from folk who I think are from other mines in the area and just trying to aim business there way,..To all other negative comments out there, let's get one thing clear, this... We have been "ruby grubbing" at Sheffield Mine for 8 years, driving around 90 miles from our home in Georgia. We have found some really nice stones over the years. People always want to complain about not finding anything but the truth is that people don't get the rocks clean enough to see what they have. I have never witnessed... More

This was by far the worse mine experience we had. They are digging the clay out of a hill not a mine. No one was finding anything but a few very small specs. of rubies not worth anything. Quiet a joke that this one was featured on the travel channel. you can't dig your own dirt but instead buy a... More

No SALTING here! These guys dig up buckets of native dirt and when you hit a sapphire, it is often a BIG one!

We love going to Sheffield mine. The staff is very helpful friendly and experienced. They make the ruby hunting process fun. We've been going there every year for the past 7 years and love it. Bud/Judy Florida.

The overall experience at Sheffield was a good one. However, what a surprise to find out upon arrival that they did not accept debit or credit cards. A sign directed visitors back to the ATM at the gas station back on the main road. They did take a check, though. Good thing I happened to have my checkbook with me.... More

Took family who was visiting from out of state. This is authentic and a great value if you really want to find a ruby. We founds some pretty decent ones. It was fun and relaxing. The host was nice and fun. It was worth our time and the travel. You can go closer but most are too commercial and kinda... More

I've been gem mining in the area several times. I don't know when I've had a more pleasant experience than I had at Sheffield Mine. The two gentlemen at the mine explained the entire procedure to my husband as it was his first time. The man who helped verify the gems was as nice as he could be. He was... More
