A great place for mining, cutting and shopping! We have been to Cowee twice & always had great help on the flume line. Inside there is a vending machine with snacks and drinks in the great giftshop. They have cut stones for me & set some I had cut in another town. There are both native and enriched buckets available... More

I have been coming to Cowee since I was a small child. Now I have my husband hooked on gem mining. I found a 672 carat Ruby on my husband and my first time. We just went again and he found a 482 carat saphires and a 582 carat ruby. Lots of fun and the people are very friendly and... More

I took a family of 5 there. The experience was fun for all. We bought two buckets, one salted and one not. Everyone got something to take home. Prices were what I expected. $25 for a salted bucket. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were not pushy. Worth the visit.

There are several gemstone and gold panning attractions in the Franklin & Cherokee, NC area. We tried this one and shared the cost of a $50 bucket. Many large gemstones to share as well as rubies, sapphires and blue topaz. There was a nice gift shop with displays of jewelry that can be made from your finds. The catch is... More

We almost missed this Gem along the road - headed to Franklin to Gem mine and we drove past this place, turned around and stopped in - right off the road! So glad we did! Wonderful store with very helpful people and very few people there that Monday morning when we stopped by. We spent several hours looking thru dirt... More

This was my family's first mine we ventured to on our vacation. We really enjoyed our experience. Robert manned the flumes and popped over every once and to answer questions or check out a stone we had a question about. He was very knowledgable and accessible if we ever needed him! When we were done, a woman in the store... More

I had been to one of the other mines first, and it was too late to go to the other one I wanted to see, so I stopped here because it was open till six and I just wanted to dig more! My impressions are that this is a place that catches the drive-by tourists who want the "experience"(and they... More

I have done this before in different places...but never with so much good luck finding stones of good quality. We bought one deluxe bucket ($25) and one Ruby & Sapphire bucket ($15). Ended up with tons of great gems..precious and semiprecious! Having 4 sets of earrings and a 10carat ring made at very reasonable prices. Love this place!!! I saw... More
