We just love visiting Mason's. It's great fun for children and adults alike. Our 7 and 12 year old sons talk about their time at Masons all year long (we live in Michigan). The staff members are sooooo awesome - really neat to talk to them - and they seem very close knit and supportive of one another. That attitude... More

This place is for real. You dig your own dirt and try to pick good spots, with a little advice from the staff. The staff was VERY helpful in identifying sapphires from among the other rocks and minerals being washed from the dirt. We were three adults and three boys ranging from eight to fourteen years old. The first day... More

We stopped here on 3/20/14 had a great time! Extended our stay in the area for an extra day! The staff was Fantastic Todd Mine Boss, Brandon and Dakota were the young fellows working the sluices. Knowledgeable and friendly. They have eyes like hawks, pointing out what you have in your screen. Our first day we found 17.9 kts of... More

We stopped here the first time we visited Franklin and keep going back... It is fun, family friendly and "cool". We wanted to learn a little about gems and stay cool on a hot, hot day! Both goals were met here. Friendly, barely knowledgeable staff. They get a lot better as the season proceeds.

If you want to do something different, and have a fun day out messing about in the dirt - this is the place to go! If you go in Autumn as we did, wrap up warm!!! Everybody was so friendly, and helpful and "Chewbacca" kept us entertained and helped make sure we didn't throw any gems away! I was especially... More

They identified our gems and would have cut them for us but we would have to leave our gems and they would have mailed them to us 4 to 6 weeks later. Didn't like that aspect of the business.

My husband and I took 2 of our grandchildren to go gem hunting. We were warned we would get dirty and we did! What fun! We found several sapphires. They were all small but just the fun of finding them was so exciting. We still have to wash the rest of the dirt off of them. I destroyed the gloves... More

After careful consideration and comparing all the different mines around Franlkin, my wife and I chose Mason's. We are sure glad we did! We had a great time mining for gems and we came home with a total of almost 60 carats of sapphires! The biggest one we found was a nicely proportioned 6.5 carat gem, which we are getting... More

We visited today and found a few sapphires. While we were there it rained off and on, but that just made the mud even more fun! The only disappointment was that we were advised NOT to play in the creek under any circumstances because of poisonous snakes. I had read other reviews here that said they had played in the... More
