My husband and I rode the GSMR six years ago and liked it. Being from Florida the views were appreciated even if at times you weren't looking at much. It did travel beside the same road we took the day earlier. We went to Bryson City over a year ago and shook our heads at the prices - WOW! We... More

Entertaining and fun, something you need to do at least once in your life. Go first class, it includes a very nice lunch, and very comfortable cars. No noisy kids in the cars which serve drinks, made it much more relaxing. More

It is a nice way to see a little of Western NC without having to hike. The towns on the train line are quaint and friendly. More

Travel first class - the meal and the staff were good; the story teller relayed great history and the banjo player was nice. Wonderful scenery, nice, comfortable rail cars - entire train crew were helpful, polite and genuinely interested in our comfort and enjoyment of the trip. More

The Railroad has been upgraded from years ago. Great family trip. Wish they bring back the all day trip from Murphy to the Gorge. More Steamers would be good too. If you like GSMRR then you love there operation in Durango, CO as well, I did. More

The kids enjoyed being on an old fashioned train but the Tuckasegee route is not very scenic. Lots of trailer parks and general trash as a view. The layover in Dillsboro seemed chaotic as the restaurants did not seem prepared for the amount of passengers that came off of the train. A fun day but not really worth the amount... More

The train ride itself was fun. The conductor, John, was nice and knowledgeable. The train was on time to the second. The scenery was nice overall, but a bit too much trash along the right of way was visible. The outrageously priced hamburgs and hot dogs were cooked who knows when and then merely reheated on board. The photographers were... More

My family has taken a ride on the GSMR many times and each time it is super fun for everyone. If you really want to experience the train and the views, opt for the open car instead of a more expensive fare. I LOVE TRAINS so this is really a no-brainer for me!!! :) More

I rode in an open car on a chlly day and would advise people not to do that.. It would have been more comfortable inside a closed car. More
