Great place to go for a daytrip. If you take a wild horse tour, you get to see the wild mustangs and familys close enough to get pictures. There are so many new, beautiful homes and old ones as well.We drove our four wheel drive truck a few miles on the sand up in Carova. It was a very exciting experience!

Although the wild horses are fun for kids to see, that is the only thing about this area that is good for kids. No one obeys the speed limit on the beach. I'm surprised that no one has been hurt yet. We ended up taking the grandkids behind the house to play and hardly spent any time by the ocean.

Great place for the family to drive out to and see the Wild Horses. We have driven up the beach twice and both times have had the pleasure of seeing horses!

I have been to every corner of the obx. Carova is the absolute worst. The idea of it is great. Drive on the beach to your quiet house with horses, but it's not like that. Its more like a beach turned into an off raid park. Nobody drives the speed limit and there are not designated traffic lanes. Trucks everywhere... More

This place is awful. Too many people on the beach. Our fishing poles got ran over by some redneck in a jacked up old truck. My kids got yelled at by some fake horse police people. We heard coyotes at night and saw big wild pigs running around peoples yards. Yes, the horses are cool, but one peed and pooped... More

The horses were beautiful. You MUST have 4 wheel drive and should take a shovel - we saw a lot of folks get stuck even with 4 wheel drive.

We took my husband's 4 wheel drive Tahoe out on the beach. We have never had the chance before and I wanted to see the wild horses and did we get lucky. 1/4 mile out the beach there were 3 grazing along the dunes. Then we drove another 5 miles out along the ocean. We did play it safe and... More

Beautiful beach! Only accessible by 4x4 vehicle. Wild horse country. The horses do at times frolic in the surf. Missed it this time, but have added it to my "Bucket List."

We did not opt to drive through this beach--we walked from a parking lot with 6 kids. Yes, call us crazy, but it's do-able. And lucky for us, the wild horses had migrated our direction so we didn't have to walk too far. The sand dunes were beautiful and the horses were exciting to see right on the beach.

A beach you can drive on if you have a four wheel drive, don't try it without. Let 20 lbs of pressure out of all your tires & drive on the beach. You may see the wild ponies but don't stop, or go near them. They are protected & need to be safe from your vehicle. The beach is beautiful... More
