I drove several times up the beach to Carova Beach during our trip to OBX. Each time, I was amazed at the remoteness. How many places exist where you can have multi-million dollar homes without a paved road in sight? It's a crazy place, to be sure. My kids loved seeing the wild horses, and I appreciated seeing "towns" without... More

Let's just say the pictures we take on the 4x4 beach help get us through the Ohio winters! What an amazing place.

My husband drove our 4x4 up the beach to Carova yesterday. Beautiful scenery of pure nature all around. No tourist shops, no gas stations, no McDonalds. Feels as remote as a desert island but so close to civilization. We saw three wild horses in the dunes. They played and ate for awhile until a family decided to walk on the... More

If you like not being able to put up beach umbrellas, sitting where you want and constantly being harassed by the sheriffs dept then this is the place for you. Will never come back

We drove in our Hyundai all the way until we saw the sand. I hope to come back one day with my Tacoma and get to really experience this place. The drive up to this point is beautiful and there a tons of 4x4‘s heading out on the beach.

Make no mistake, Carova Beach is beautiful - the dunes, the water, the beach road, and the houses. It is also somewhat remote in that you definitely need 4wd. It's actually a legal requirement to drive on the beach. You'll need it, too; we saw several cars stuck in the sand, most WITH 4wd. It is also remote in that... More

We were surprised on how remote this area is yet so many people were there. You can only get there by 4 wheel drive but, well worth the effort if you do. Very clean beaches for miles. People were cooking out, sunbathing, swimming and playing beach sports. We only knew about it because of the wild hourse tour. Not crowded... More

Stayed at Serendipity on Carova Beach and it os amazing! 4x4 only and a rip roaring ride done the beach! The rest of the island is so beautiful, lots of wild life besides the horses, egrets, ospreys, bunnies, fish, crabs, dolphins, pelicans. The beach is a GREAT place to fish, fly kites, and just sit not many other folks around... More
