The nature center is great place to expose kids to what lies outside their door (like snakes) and then there are easy hikes around the lake (Lake Wylie), picnic areas, clean restrooms, benches to sit and look out at the lake, a cozy swing for two, etc. Come bring a picnic and grill a burger or hotdog on their grills... We were looking for a place to get a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hour hike that was not too far from our hotel. This worked perfectly. Not the most challenging but very nice.

This is a great peaceful place to go!! I love hiking, fishing and boating here! They offer affordable canoe rentals on weekends in the summer. I have never caught any fish here though. also there are horse trails

Since I like spending time outdoors, this is another great option by the water. There are a variety of trails and places to picnic and hang with friends. They do have camping options, which I have not tried yet. I have also been boating and kayaking on Lake Wylie close to the Preserve.

This park offers a huge variety of things to do. It is just outside Charlotte city limits, so first time campers can go and be close to home if they forgot anything. Can camp from primitive (tent) to an RV and everything in between. Various trails, from paved and easy to climbing up hills. In the summer you can rent... More

My wife and brother-in law and myself went to the preserve in July 2015 to do some walking for some exercise. I am 69,my brother-in law is 74,and my wife is 59. We walked down to what looked like a fishing pier. While we were on the pier I tripped over fishing line that was just thrown on the pier.... More

My family had recently moved to the Charlotte area. Our daughter wanted to visit the preserve because she read about this place in a brochure. We had a blast! We all love nature so while we saw many new things, we also learned a lot. This is not only a great place to walk around, it is a great place... More

This center has been around for many years and beginning to show it's age. The permanent exhibits are increasingly getting in disrepair. The "live" presentations are great for the children and the Father Tree show is nice also. The outdoor walk is nice and it appears as though they are clearing more of that area which is a good thing.
