We went to Charlotte and decided to camp at the McDowell nature center campground. Very clean, quiet, and the restrooms were very large and nice. It takes approx.. 30 min. to get to the downtown area from here so not too bad. Did not get to see any of the park as this was a quick trip but I would... More

Great location just off a major Charlotte street. Easy access to a variety of services and shops, restaurants, etc. Right on Lake Wylie. Sites rather uneven but usable. Better than average bathrooms. Reasonable rates - $33 per night for an RV site.

Took the grandkids to the nature center where they saw snakes, frogs and turtles. Had a picnic nearby and hiked the Sierra trail. Great because they could go ahead of of us and explore safely still in our sight range. Went on trail by the lake, stooped at the playground area and really enjoyed the afternoon.

The Center is on the shores of large man-made Lake Wylie. There are about seven miles of hiking trails -- we hiked about 2 1/2 miles, roundtrip from the nature center to the shoreline and mostly along the shore. Be sure to get the free map from the nature center. The trails are in general easy to follow, but there... More

Many folks don't seem to know of this very beautiful park on the shores of Lake Wiley. Lots of easy hiking trails, a boat/kayak launch, Been there 3 different times and never too crowded.

This lake has many trails for hiking. The trails are not strenuous and ther is a lake that offers beautiful view with seats for viewing or tables for a picnic lunch.

Plenty of walking trails and areas to picnic along Lake Wylie. Little concerned about the lack of law enforcement presence. While this is not a "high crime" area, it is a large amount of land with many visitors coming through daily. Just takes one incident to scare people away. That said, this is still a very nice place and we... More

Have camped here a couple of times. Found the sites to be kind of small and unlevel but the setting is beautiful for a city park. The park has many hiking trails and a nice lake which we kayaked. The campground has nice bathrooms with showers. We will definitely return.

McDowell is a great park situated on Lake Wylie. They have trails for hiking, camp sites, grills for cooking, kayak rentals, fishing and a swim area. It is a beautiful park great for families and kids. The nature center provides educational opportunities for families and have regularly scheduled programs.

Enjoy coming to this place in the spring and summer to eat a picnic. Takes a while to get back to it but it is well worth it. The scenery is beautiful.
