Independence boulevard is a road, it is not a "thing to do" or a "destination". I drive it regularly, I don't get why it had been added to here. Currently under construction between downturn and 485. Avoid if making a trip through the area unless it it's your only option.

At one time this was a boulevard that had the best retail strip in Charlotte plus the largest domed arena in the US. As Charlotte grew the planners just tried to widen it and this made visiting the stores virtually impossible. Compounding this was the demographic flight of the middle class further south and this area soon became a six... More

charlotte is forever changing for no reason what so ever. with that said, it has ruined the best strip in the city. what was once a hot place to hang out, is not a dead line of street. stay away..no good businesses, tons of construction, and stupid traffic!!

I have never enjoyed driving on Independence boulevard. I always feel depressed when I need to drive on this road because I can tell it used to be a lot nicer some time in the past. Many businesses are abandoned and the ones that aren't look to be barely hanging on. The road can be extremely busy in the mornings... More

Independence blvd is a major street to get to Charlotte from Monroe. Also known as 74. Or wilkinson blvd as to get to Gastonia . Not pretty sights now but in process of new looks. There are less lights to stop at but construction is still going on. With 485 opening up , it goes all the way round Charlotte... More

And why? This is a typical high density boulevard like you find in many large cities with no real "attraction" that I can see so don't understand why it's even listed. Although there are lots of shops and businesses along the way, we definitely aren't talking Rodeo Drive here. This is just a route to get from point A to... More

would Trip Advisor ask me or anyone else to rate this road? It's useful to get from place x to place y sometimes, but otherwise should be avoided if possible -- essentially it's a old design, with recent upgrades, highway designed to move people from east side suburbs to downtown Charlotte.

On my recent visit to Charlotte, we drove into uptown on Independence Boulevard, and I really had a blast. They were repaving the road, and all the construction work made the drive super exciting. And, of course, who doesn't love sitting in traffic? I think my favorite part was seeing all the abandoned shopping malls and car dealerships along the... More
