This is a nice place to get away from a lot of people. The trails are basically a walk in the woods. Note of caution: remember to take mosquito spray...they are plentiful!

We visited the park a few days ago and enjoyed taking the Fly Trap Trail. Finding Venus fly traps was not a successful venture. We did find a great pitcher plant specimen, one of the five carnivorous plants that make this beautiful small park home. Today, Sunday, we came back for the 11 AM ranger-led tour of the same trail.... More

We biked to the park, not a huge bike area but a nice getaway from the busy areas if the island. There seem to be a lot of hiking trails though. There is a waterfront area that is beautiful. The displays in the building are informative & worth checking out.

Our fall trip occurred during the time of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the government shutdown. There were some places, like the North Carolina Ferry from Cedar Island to Okracoke, where we got rude comments, not from private citizens (which afic is free speech), but from the state workers who loaded the ferries. This is just plain... More

This is a very nice campground, with lots of sites for everything from tents to full-size motor homes. Close enough, 10 minutes, to make the trip from the campground to the beach or to the Carolina Beach boardwalk. Great bicycle trails in the campground. And you can use your bike to go to the main beach shops and boardwalk. Great... More

On a business trip, I got up super early and drove down to the Carolina Beach State Park. There's a parking lot with public restrooms just before the entrance. Left the car there, put on the running shoes and headed into the park. About 30 seconds into the run on the amazing sand, I ditched the shoes and socks preferring... More

Even though I read on Tripadvisor about the gates closing at 8 we stayed there anyway. A beautiful park, big sites all surrounded by trees, nice privacy, clean bathrooms with hot water. A beautiful boat ramp. No electricity but hey its a state park. Nice place to bike. Only complaint is that they close the gates at 8 pm so... More

The park is shady. Most of the campsites are really good size. The only problem that we came across was that we were on our travel trailer and there is no electricity in the campground. The only way we will go back to this campground is if we carry a generator because no matter how much shade there is when... More
