Shallow area in the Sound were kiddos can play safely in the sand or water. Crab fishing, clamming, windsurfing, shelling, paddle boarding...lots of options for the whole family. Also, there are bathrooms, changing rooms, & outdoor showers.

Great place for wind surfing or place for shallow water fun with no surf. Limited parking. Has restrooms and a good place to view sunset.

Just to sit and watch the wind surfing was fun.was a beautiful day. Bathroom facilities are horrible but other than that was very relaxing.

We stopped here on our way to Buxton to let the dog run around and swim. It's a decent beach with bathroom facilities. There were several windsurfers there that we were able to watch. You can cross the street to the ocean side as well.

Important note when trying to find this location. .. the street signs refer to this location as Haulover Day access, not Canadian Hole. As others have said, if you want Sound access in southern Hatteras which is good for warmer, calmer water as well as kayaking, windsurfing, paddleboarding, etc then this is an ideal spot.

This may be one of the best kite surfing spots on the east coast. Calm shallow water and lots of wind. There's lots of parking and there's lots of sandy beach to set up. A great location for taking photographs of the kites with the Hatteras light house in the background and spectacular sunsets. There are restrooms here and you... More

I am not a windsurfer or a kiteboarder, but my husband and friends are. It's a great place to hang and watch the action. People are friendly even if you are not on the water.

This is a great place to sit in the water and not worry about the huge waves. The water on the sound side is also a bit warmer. Great place to watch the windsurfers and for sunsets.

You must check this out and go wading with rays and skates. It is fantastic. Be respectful if signs are posted for nesting and come back after nesting and hatching if posted. Our collective actions add to the biodiversity of the area...or take it away.

We went in the evening when it was not crowded to let our dogs swim. It was wonderful for them. The water was shallow, calm and warm. You can go out quite far and it still only comes up to you waist. Great place for kids as well. A must do on the outer banks.
