This course is in the shadow of the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi, yet, surprisingly the course is in a valley, so it's very manageable, both for carts and walking. Due to frequent rain, carts are usually required to stay on the paths, a minor inconvenience. We stay for a month at a mountain retreat that overlooks the 12th... More

I've played this course several times every year since the 80's. Have noticed over the last handful of years that the condition of the course is declining. Use to be the entire course was lush and manicured. Now the bunkers are terrible, fairways not great and greens are equal to a muni. I think the owner doesn't want to spend... More

We have been lucky to play some wonderful golf courses - Pinehurst #2, Oakmont, Dunes Club, etc. Mount Mitchell Golf Club is treasure in western North Carolina. It offers a great layout for all levels of players. The views of the mountains and the sounds of the Toe River make for a beautiful and serene experience. We cannot wait to... More

Well I wanted to give the owners of Mt. Mitchell Golf Course the benefit of the doubt! Word on the street was they were doing some work like Senior Tees, Drainage and Cart Paths. While everyone I spoke to hoped for Greens redo's and Fairway's with grass versus Thatch I wanted to see what was being done. Well they are... More

Played Tue about 3pm. Storms all around, but not a drop of rain during my round. Not crowded... Played in 2.5hrs. Greens, Fariways, Tees and traps in very good condition...especially considering the extremely cold winter they experienced. Barry and Dean gave me a warm welcome and updated me on the course conditions. The cart paths are a little rough in... More

As anon golfer I enjoyed driving the cart in such a beautiful setting- the golfers enjoyed it too - lovely maintained course with some demanding water-which we did not always avoid

I have been visiting this golf course since the mid 80s...People would fly in clients to play this lovely course not far from Mt.Mitchell. Two trips this summer showed a real decline in the entire area in and around the golf course. It was flooded due to abundant rains but the entire course and the houses looked rather *shabby* after years... The Mount Mitchell golf course had one thing going for it and that is the condition. Sadly, the condition we experienced this weekend was very disappointing. The scenery is still fantastic but the greens on Friday were nearly unplayable. Saturday was a little better but not up to par. I have been to Mount Mitchell many times since 1986 but... More

What a sad state for what had been a GEM! Played the course over the years and each year saw decline! This year it finally hit the bottom! Greens are like the rough at most courses! They don't even cut them each day! Tried to allow for the heavy rains but that isn't the base cause here! Just horribly maintained... More

I returned to Mt. Mitchell Golf Course some twenty-one years after having fallen in love with it, and the old romance is still there. Despite the fact that a summer of constant heavy rain has waterlogged this beautiful track, the beauty of its setting, the genius of its design, and the care with which it has been maintained are ever...
