We made reservations in spring for three days in Bryson City to coincide with a ride to the North Pole for us (the parents), our four children (also parents) and our six grandchildren. The ride on the Polar Express was the highlight of our trip into the mountains - it was everything and more than expected. We had two books... More

We decided on a winter visit to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Asheville & while staying at the Microtel Hotel on the Cherokee Indian Reservation we were advised as to riding the rails. This instantly caught our attention. We booked our tickets on an "Excursion" from Bryson, NC to Dillsboro, NC. We chose the mid-level Premium ride in the Crown Car. We chose this... More

I wanted to share my experience on 17 Jan 15 / Tuckasegee River Excursion. My family and I (6 adults & 10 yr )rented the Caboose . We were very disappointed with the inside of this caboose. 1. It was cold in the caboose, no heating gas in the tank, after contacting the conductor it was exchanged prior to leaving... More

Over the past ten years or so we have vacationed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Highlight of those trips has been a few rides on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in Bryson City, North Carolina. It is always fun, and a beautiful day trip. Generally we ride in the open cars so our photographs are sharp. Our favorite... More

We have been on this train numerous times in the past 20+ years, with my parents and my husband and children. Years ago we took it from Bryson City to Dillsboro, and in the past couple of years it has gone from Bryson City to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. We have ridden in outdoor gondolas and 2 Christmases ago we... More

Took ride to Dillsboro, not very scenic, but lunch and shopping in the quaint town was fun. Nice to just sit back and have a drink while spending time with friends. Would have been nicer if you didn't have to walk several cars up to get adult beverages.

A great way to spend the day! We originally booked the Carolina Shine Moonshine Experience but that car was out of service for repair so they moved us to the adult only First Class car and we were not disappointed. The lunch was delicious and we enjoyed cocktails and had unlimited soda and coffee during the trip. our destination on... More

A special train ride during the Christmas season. This is well organized but you do not feel rushed. Staff working the cars were very friendly and their story telling added to the ride. Santa made the evening for my grand children. They have a very nice model train museum to visit before and after the train ride in addition to... More

We have ridden the Polar Express for the past 5 years with my son (he's now 7). This is a must for any family with children. We have always done First Class so I cannot speak to the entire experience, but First Class is amazing. Yes, it costs a little more, but you get snacks, amazing hot chocolate in a... More
