We took the Tuckasegee River Ride, in October on a Monday. To get the full experience, we rode in the open car. Now even though it had to rain on our day, not the day before or after, it couldn't ruin the ride. I highly recommend the open car. We didn't get wet and the staff brought papertowels just in... Took the grandkids on the polar express and it was outstanding. These are precious times to share while they are still young. We all had a great time and expierence and would do it again.

Adults-only first class car was worth every penny. Food was surprisingly very good and reflected a lot of love. From the heart shaped brownies to the sips of champagne, it was a unique romantic experience. Our attendant Renee kept our drinks full and had a sense of humor and adventure. Even saw a bald eagle flying over the river. Sigh!... More

Nice ride to Dillsboro. Would like for there to be more stores or things to do in Dillsboro. Had a wonderful car attendant who kept our cups full and snacks at the ready. We upgraded to Crown but there was still very limited leg room, would almost buy double seats just to have more room. Overall it was a day... More

This ride is scenic and a great way to see the changing seasons! There are also themed rides during the holidays that children enjoy (Polar Express, Bunny Express, etc.)

We made reservations in spring for three days in Bryson City to coincide with a ride to the North Pole for us (the parents), our four children (also parents) and our six grandchildren. The ride on the Polar Express was the highlight of our trip into the mountains - it was everything and more than expected. We had two books... More

We decided on a winter visit to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Asheville & while staying at the Microtel Hotel on the Cherokee Indian Reservation we were advised as to riding the rails. This instantly caught our attention. We booked our tickets on an "Excursion" from Bryson, NC to Dillsboro, NC. We chose the mid-level Premium ride in the Crown Car. We chose this... More

I wanted to share my experience on 17 Jan 15 / Tuckasegee River Excursion. My family and I (6 adults & 10 yr )rented the Caboose . We were very disappointed with the inside of this caboose. 1. It was cold in the caboose, no heating gas in the tank, after contacting the conductor it was exchanged prior to leaving... More

Over the past ten years or so we have vacationed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Highlight of those trips has been a few rides on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in Bryson City, North Carolina. It is always fun, and a beautiful day trip. Generally we ride in the open cars so our photographs are sharp. Our favorite... More
