My boyfriend and I decided a few weeks ago to travel across North Carolina from the east coast to check out the fall foliage. We booked our tickets online and it was a breeze. We booked our trip for the Nantahala Gorge Excursion, morning trip (9:00am). The website recommends arriving at least an hour early and you definitely should! We... More

We went on the first class trip / Natalhala Gorge. To see the views, which were on the left side, we had to look over a table of 4 people as most of the good views are in that direction. Since they don't turn the train around (just the engine car) it was the same going back. The trip was... More

The clickety clack of the train along with the silent swaying was a very relaxing ride. You go down one way then the move the engine and go back the other way. Hot dog bag lunch was decent.

Was hoping the see the colors of fall, but either it wasn't peak season or the weather from the night before took down the leaves. We were in the open car, you can see better from there.

I rode on the Nantahala Gorge excursion on October 13th. As another reviewer mentioned, the trip to the NOC went without a hitch. On our layover, the engine broke down and everything went downhill. But before I get into that, I will review the excursion itself. The scenery was beautiful for some of the ride but for the most part... More

We had heard this was a nice trip. It was long and boring. We could have seen more just driving around looking at scenery. Food was cheap theatre type. Seats were uncomfortable even indoors. I heard several people around say they wanted to hire a cab and go back when we stopped at mid point. It was so expensive that... More

Had no parking, terrible signs pointing us where to go, coach was VERY hot even though it said I could control the temp. Overall not happy especially with amount we paid for tickets. Would not suggest to a friend.

We enjoyed the train trip even though the leaves were not at peak color they were still very nice to look at. The seats were comfortable enough that you did not mind sitting for that length of time and all of the employees were super nice. The only misleading thing is that the website says that you can enjoy a... More

My husband LOVES trains, so we planned this train excursion in North Carolina at the Great Smoky Mt. Railroad. There also was a museum there he enjoyed. We left the Bryson City Depot at 10am and returned to the depot at 3pm. The scenery was gorgeous and we both enjoyed our journey immensely! We both would recommend this journey to... More

We took the 4.5 hr Nantahala Gorge trip. We had an open-air car which provided great panoramic views; however, it would be miserable on a bad-weather day (yes, they use those cars on bad weather days too). If it is raining, there is no protection from the rain coming in on the cars - just something to be aware of... More
