We took our children here while staying in a cabin in NC and had a blast. It's exciting for the kids when they find their gems. I'd recommend staying beside younger children while sifting, they tend to look over a lot of the gems. Our kids spent hours back at the cabin sorting and trading all of their new treasures.

Really fun and beautiful gems. It was so exciting when I found my first gem.The staff was very nice and there was no pressure to buy anything. We used a Garnet gem we found and bought a necklace . Can not wait to get it.

We really enjoyed our visit to Foggy Mountain Gem Mine. We bought the second biggest bucket and found many gems. They review your stones at the end and you have a chance to have them cut but there isn't any pressure to do so. Great place to keep the kids busy during a rain storm.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, she has generalized Dystonia and we have to find activities that are compatible with her disease--this was perfect. We sifted through the bucket looking for gems and weren't disappointed. We ended up ordering two necklaces for two of the prettier stones. The staff was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and there was zero pressure to... More

My boys (6 & 9) had a great time here. We got the next to the largest bucket. It took over an hour to sift through and found some goodies. The staff were nice and very knowledgeable. Also, a great place to get out of the rain for a little while.

I needed to find someplace to take a break while driving from Florida to New York, and I decided on Boone, NC specifically to visit FMGM. It was so worth the detour! I arrived as they were opening the door I purchased the medium sized pail and was led to the 'mining area' where I was handed a nice sized... More

My husband and I really enjoyed the experience and were amazed at the variety and size of the gems we found. We were both "rock hounds" as children and I make jewelry so this was both fun and business. We have to go back and take our grandson. We had some of the stones cut and I am looking forward... More

Our three year old had a great time doing "dig-dig" through the bucket and cleaning the gems. We had a fun finding the gems, and then learning about our loot! We found a very large ruby, which we are having cut, but like others have said, there was no pressure to buy anything. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We... More

We had seen different "mining" sites while traveling between Banner Elk and Boone and thought they were just tourist traps until we met people at the resort we were staying told us about the great time they had at Foggy Mountain. So we decided to try it for ourselves. We got a bucket to share and even my husband enjoyed... More
