First of all, I am SO GLAD we decided to check this place out on our vacation. It was the perfect rainy day activity. The reviews on TA were right when they said this place was awesome. Our family (Ages 32, 31, 12, & 9) had a wonderful time. Daniel was the one to help us out and spent 30-45... More

We had visited some of the other gem mines in the area in the past years but decided to try Foggy Mountain on this trip. We got the 5 gal bucket and started sifting away. The first thing that caught my eye was the size of the stones found seemed larger than we had seen in the past. Thinking this... More

I've honestly never been gem mining nor had the desire to go, but after driving past a few gem mines in Boone our group ( 3 adults, 3 teens, one child) decided to give it a try this a try. I am so happy we chose foggy mountain. Their staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. Travis helped us and even... More

We've been gem mining before. By far, the best around. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Great touch- they take the kids findings and they go through and tell them exactly what they found. Will definitely come back when we visit NC again.

There are several mining places in and around town. We visited a few and this by far was the best. Their buckets had lots of gems and the kids had a great time. They have a small indoor spot and a larger outdoor spot. The outdoor spot is covered in case it is raining. The staff was very friendly and... More

A must do. Incredibly nice staff. We had a group of 12 and 8 were kids 10 and under. The staff was patient and nice to all of us. It is a great educational experience and well worth the $68 for the bucket. We were there for about 2 hours. No pressure to buy anything additional and all our treasures... More

We went on a rainy day--looking for something fun to do. We weren't disappointed! Kids LOVED it! We bought the "mother load", and we found lots of gems! Our kids were so excited. As others mentioned, they checked our discard buckets for us and found several garnets that we accidently threw out! Oops. We had quite a few gems cut... More

Lots of fun just hard to decide on what to have polished and cut because there's so many nice rocks you end up getting. We got the $65 bucket for 6 people but 2 adults helped the 2 young kids.

The second morning of our trip was cold and rainy. A perfect morning to go mining. The outdoor area is under a roof so we were out of the rain. I spend about an hour going through my bucket of rocks. The "Rock Hound" was the perfect size for me. I think if it had been any bigger, I would... More
