My husband and I really enjoyed the experience and were amazed at the variety and size of the gems we found. We were both "rock hounds" as children and I make jewelry so this was both fun and business. We have to go back and take our grandson. We had some of the stones cut and I am looking forward... More

Our three year old had a great time doing "dig-dig" through the bucket and cleaning the gems. We had a fun finding the gems, and then learning about our loot! We found a very large ruby, which we are having cut, but like others have said, there was no pressure to buy anything. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We... More

We had seen different "mining" sites while traveling between Banner Elk and Boone and thought they were just tourist traps until we met people at the resort we were staying told us about the great time they had at Foggy Mountain. So we decided to try it for ourselves. We got a bucket to share and even my husband enjoyed... More

Definitely the best gem mine around. Friendly, knowledgeable staff especially Daniel. He identified each gem in great detail. No pressure to have your gems cut there. Looking forward to going back.

Initially, I had no interest in going to a "mining" site, but I'm glad we did go. This attraction is simple but adequate, with a sluice and other equipment necessary to "pan" for rough gemstones. After buying a bucket of dirt and rocks, we rinsed the dust and dirt off the rocks, to reveal a fairly large selection of gemstones... More

Great time we found a lot of gems and at the end someone goes through all that you collect tells you what gem it is. We ended up have two rocks turned into polished gram stones

We spent a wonderful afternoon at the Foggy Mountain Gem Mine! For the three of us, myself, my husband ( who swore he wasn't going to do it) , and my son, we got the second to the smallest bucket. They treated us the same as the groups with largest buckets, the staff was very attentive. My husband seemed to... More

Took our kids here on a whim. It's not all that bad, especially for a place that just lets you play with rocks. We found a few nice gems. The kids had a great time.

It's hard to choose what to eat there. Everything is so amazing and different. I would describe this place as a non traditional approach to traditional pub food. From a "thanksgiving reminicent" sandwhich to a "grown up" macaroni and cheese, it was a pleasant surprise for us.

Very nice facilities. Mining area is covered, so you are protected from rain, wind, etc. Very helpful associates. Showed us the process, step-by-step. Came by periodically to make sure we were doing okay, and were happy to answer questions about gem identification. They did have a chart, but wasn't all inclusive. Offer different size buckets, but even the lowest price... More
