Gem fun

It is hard to find an activity my 12 & 14 year olds will get into. They loved every minute. There are plenty of treasures in every bucket. We wanted to do it again the next day.

I had never before been gem mining and I was in town checking out trash can falls when Foggy Mountain came up as the #1 thing to do in the area. Went ahead and stopped by and I purchased the $70 bucket of gems. My friend and I found some really cool gems and got two of them cut that... More

We have been here once before and my grandchildren remembered it well and wanted to return . The 3 had a great time using the 30.00 bucket and loved identifying all the stones they cleaned with great help from the friendly staff .I did like it and would encourage people to go even if they don't have kids or grandchildren.... Fun and educational for the kids. We bought a medium sized bucket and thoroughly enjoyed watching our kids sift through the dirt as they separated the various crystal pieces seeded into the mixture. I'm not certain the stones one finds in the dirt you buy are actually from that section of dirt, or if they were planted by the staff.... More

We visited several gem mines in the area and found tha Foggy Mountain was as good, if not the best of bunch. The set-up is similar to any of the mines - buy your desired bucket and hit the sluice to wash through your dirt. The staff made the experience perfect. They not only warmly greeted us upon arrival, they... More

Our family had an incredible time at this facility. The entire staff was incredible. Nick the owner was amazing and spent time with our children showing them some incredible find he had just picked up at a recent gem show. The manager was friendly and explained to us information about the area including the Scottish culture and the Highland Games.... More

Our family, including an 8 and 10 year old, had a blast for my first gem mining experience. We found coupons in a few of the local tourist guides which took 10% off. We opted for the $70 "big daddy" bucket to mine which included tons of larger rocks and one complimentary cut of a stone you find. We were... More

The folks at Foggy Mountain are fantastic!! We happened to visit the weekend of the Scottish Games so the guys all had on kilts in honor of the event. The staff is very knowledgeable and helps you select the best gems. In addition, they offer the best prices should you elect to have gems cut and polished. I was amazed... More

My daughter is having a necklace made($40) and I am having a ruby ring made($90)Both were overpriced for silver settings. The necklace included a free cutting & polishing.it will be... More

Saw that the forecast was a rainy day so we decided to do gem mining instead of canoeing. Great call! We had so much fun just sifting and learning about the gems we found. Super friendly and knowledgable staff! Don't forget to pick up any map or booklet that has the 10% off coupon to use here. (Stop at any... More
