We were looking for a fun place to do gem mining with the ids. We found this place on the way to Banner Elk from Boone and stopped. All of us enjoyed the mining and the presentation of the gems we discovered. The only knock on this establishment is the parking. It is located on Route 105 and getting out... More

Recently, I had accidentally misplaced, or possibly threw away my daughter's small rock collection and thought this experience would be a good replacement. Without telling her and my son, hubby and I took them there and my daughter was overjoyed! We bought a $30 bucket, but after 1 sift, we upgraded to a $70 bucket, bc we thought it wouldn't... More

It looks like a little road side dump, but inside is fun! The staff was extremely helpful & nice. The kids really enjoyed it.

Bought the Big Daddy bucket. ($70) many stones found. Good size. Employees allowed each person to have their own sifter. (We have gone to other mines and they would only allow 1 sifter/bucket). Very nice staff. Pretty busy on New Years Eve today. The larger buckets include your choice of a cabochon cutting free (any size stone!/not limited to 1ct...really... More

We had a great time with the kids. They were able to get a bucket and sift through to find all kinds of gems. The kids had a blast.

We went on our way to Boone, and the kids had a good time. You get a bucket for $30, which seemed a little steep as it lasts about 30 minutes. The kids had a lot of fun with it so we would go back for them . The staff was very helpful and supportive throughout the process. My only... More

We took the kids here for some entertainment. Like a previous review their website gave pricing at 15.00 for a gallon bucket but when we got there the price had been increased to 30$ for the same size. I asked the clerk about price difference said it was a seasonal adjustment. With the exception of the pricing (bait and switch)... More

We would like to Thank David and his family for the time they spent with us. We would like to clarify that we do offer a "$15.00" bucket during our summer months, but during our busiest times (July 4th weekend and Dec 26-Jan3) we have to remove the 1 gallon bucket from our offered bucket list. Our web master missed... More

Everything we read indicated that the cheapest bucket was $15. That's "seasonal" apparently. The cheapest available to us in December was $30. No matter, the kids enjoyed the mining as did the adults. The pitch to spend hundreds of dollars to out your gems in their cheap jewelry was a little much but certainly worth the month for the fun... We found a couple of nice stones. Our initial reaction was not positive due to the older man who greeted us seemed like we were bothering him and referred us to another employee who was helpful and friendly. Didn't really need to sift through the rocks since the screens were a little open for my taste. Good if you only... More

Great fun time for the kids, two hours well spent while the kids have fun examining the stones. Staff is great, very helpful and always smiling. After you finish the staff inspect your findings and they classify the stones for you. The only downside is the little high cost of the stone cutting, even though I'm no expert I think... More
