We went on a Monday morning, less crowded and by nightfall the slopes were packed. I had never skied before so I signed up for lessons. The first group lesson with Anna and Thomas was great! They were patient and give clear concise directions. The second group lesson was terrible. I was with Anna and Riley. Anna was patient again... More

Appalachian Ski Mountain is where any family visiting the mountains of NC should spend time on the slopes. Compared to nearby Sugar Mountain, this place is a 5 star resort. Sugar is dirty, dangerous and does not seem to care about the customer. Appalachian is clean, safe, fun and customer service is incredible. They make the ticketing and rental process... More

A wonderful place for families to ski together. Runs are shorter than at some of the other mountains but staff is kind and helpful and the mountain is clean. The small size of the resort makes you feel welcome and cared for. Wouldn't ski anywhere else in the area.

We travel here several times a year and enjoy it very much. Good skiing and snowboarding terrain for kids and adults. If you happen to be a parent with kids who ski and just want to relax and watch them ski, this is your place! While they ski, you can relax by fire or watch them from inside. Lodge had... More

We didn't bother trying Beech or Sugar mountain. My boys 5, 7 and 10 had the best time. Our first day started with all 3 boys getting an 8 hour ski pass that included 4 hours of group ski training. We live in Florida and they've never seen snow. We put 5 and 7 year old in school again on... More

We went on a weekday and it was not crowded. Took 1 hour refresh course with Jacob (Jake) who is Sheriff but teaches during off time. He was a great instructor and without his tips, I don't think we would have tried black diamond slopes. Compared to Sugar mountain, the fees is a little expensive, but the people at the... More

We did some night skiing on Opening Night and found that this year was much better than last. The staff was friendly -- especially at the French-Swiss ski school. The guys in the ski shop set our daughter up with some skis of her own and they were awesome to take time to find everything she needed in colors she... More

Helpful staff, friendly and great snowboarding school. Was not crowded when we visited in March, but still good snow on the slopes. Would recommend for families and those wanting a smaller mountain. We would definitely return.

If you are a beginner skiier or want to get your kids in ski school, this is a great place for you. Pros: We liked the fact that it is small so no need for walkie-talkies and worrying about getting separated from your group, etc. Well organized and friendly staff. Good rental equipment. Easy to get to. Closest ski resort... More

This was our first ski trip as a family (4 and 7 year old children). My kids and I had never skied before, so we signed up for lessons. I made reservations for the children for the Ski Wee program on Friday (2 hrs in the morning, break for lunch, and then met again for 2 hrs in the afternoon).... More
