We went here with my Daughter when we discovered Tweetsie is seasonal only open during warmer months (were from Florida so we have never heard of that), so we looked here to find a fun activity. We found a lot of nice gems, and my little one had fun since she got to dig in the mud a little looking... More

Our grandsons had no trouble doing what boys most enjoy...digging. They found some wonderful gems that we still have. The attendants were most helpful and the place quite educational if you know very little about gems. A great edventure for children. We had a ruby star cut and polished for a ring and one other stone finished for jewelry.

This place can be spendy, but our kids loved it! You can select from various sized buckets of dirt to sift and find gems in. After the bucket has been sifted the employees will sort all of your gems and tell you about them. Friendly staff - fun activity for the family!

It was a cold wintery day and the place was packed, but it was still fun. We mined inside so water was a little cold, but not bad, very busy but they have it organized and we didnt wait long. Got 2 medium size buckets and my girls found lots of gems, they are 8 and 5 and they had... More

Stopped at the Boone Visitor's center to ask about Gem Mining and they suggested Doc's. My Grandson had a wonderful time, and the adult children enjoyed it as well. The staff was very helpful and everyone was overjoyed with the types of rocks they had found. We were there in December, so we were happy that they had indoor mining.

Doc's was a nice diversion for our younger kids. The prices were reasonable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a coffee shop attached, which was nice as it was a rather cool day out (December, Docs is one that is open off season). Oddly, the coffee shop is cash only, so my oldest son had to... My daughter loved this. She liked finding the "pretty rocks" almost as much as she liked playing in the mud! Can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to!

This was our second trip to Docs Rocks and we want to go back again. Have a 4 year old and a 5 year old, they both love it. And the adults love the challenge of who can find the most valuable gems. Always super fun and so exciting to see what you can find! I mined a 1.5 carat... More

We are locals, and we take all visitors to Doc's. The owners, Doc and Trina McCoy, make sure that everyone has a good time. This is the only gem mine in the area that is actually educational. (There's even a dinosaur museum upstairs!) They get ore from NC mines and they do not go through it and pick out the... More

I had a really good time mining with the kids. Prices are comparable with the other gem mining places around. We found good sized gems and paid to have one cut. If you want your gem cut, you will have to pay an additional fee to have it cut which is anywhere from $20-40 depending on the rock. We had... More
