This was my first time gem mining. There are 3 different bucket sizes and prices to match. I got the small bucket, $12.00 and found a good amount of gems in the rough. The staff seemed very knowledgeable about the gems and how to sell you on cutting them for you if you chose to. They set the gems out... More

We stopped by at the urging of my 5 yr old. Bought the medium size bucket and went to town. Once we started we couldn't stop! We all found some great finds. I even found a sharks tooth! I highly recommend this place! We had 3 stones polished and cut. We would have done more but that's the expensive part.... More

We live in the Boone and Blowing Rock vicinity, and when we have family or friends visit us from out of town, we ALWAYS take them to Doc's for part of their High Country experience. It is just as good for kids as it is seniors. Everyone loves shiny rocks! The hands-on gem-mining is probably the foremost activity on everyone's... More

We were looking for something to do with the kids that would be different than the other times we've come to North Carolina and I stumbled across Docs Rocs. We had 3 adults, a teenager and an 11 year old with us. You can mine for your rocks outside or inside. It was a bit to cold and windy for... More

My daughter was really excited about gem mining, but my husband and I were skeptical...we thought it would be pushy and a rip off. We were wrong!! The prices were great, the staff was very helpful and very knowledgeable. It was a fun, learning experience for all of us. The next time we go to the Boone area, we will... More

We went to Doc's Rocks July 19th. It was a dreary, rainy - COLD day in Boone. No problem!! They have indoor seating. We got the medium size bucket and found sapphires, garnets, citrine, amethyst and rose quartz. I guess I should mention we are all adults!! LOL!! Fun times!! We will definitely go again. My daughter got a sapphire... More

Came out here in July and got the big bucket for our 3 kids. They absolutely loved every minute of it, and so did I! They found tons of gems and really got into it, and are still talking about their loot to this day! We let each one get a gem cut, and they turned out super nice. My... More

The employees here were so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We found lots of stones including a huge, very clear amethyst (that they are cutting for us), two rubies - that I would never have known were anything but little rocks if it were not for the young lady working there, a sapphire, and an awesome quartz that they are cutting... We come to Doc's every year and each visit is just as fun as the first. You are guaranteed to find gems in each bucket and the staff give you a great lesson on the gems and how they are formed. We have buckets of garnets, rubies, pink quartz, and aquamarine that we have found at Doc's. Our son loves... More

My brother and I took our 6 and 10 year old boys. This place is educational accredited, the dirt is the dirt, no seeding etc. Staff was incredible and Doc is a certified gemologist, very hands on and teaches the kids as they are mining. Once mining is done they go I've each stone they have mined and let them... More
