My husband and I came here for fun and to see what it was about. It was great fun and we found a lot of great stones, gems, etc. We did get 2 stones polished and cut.....Ruby and Amethyst...Ruby was over5 3 carats after all was done to it. The amethyst was a bit over 1 carat.

A little dirt never hurt anyone especially when they discover gems and rocks. They will love it and so will you when you see they're faces.

We had a good time sifting through dirt for colorful gems. Help was very nice and made good suggestions on what to look for.

We headed straight over on the morning of our anniversary. We had planned to play with a big bucket of dirt, get some lunch then do some sight seeing. Well we ended up having such a good time that we did multiple buckets before lunch. They go through what you think is trash rock to double check for you. They... More

I surprised my kids (6 & 8) with a visit here. They collect rocks from every random stop we make anyway, so I thought it would be perfect -- THEY LOVED IT! There were 3 different sized buckets of dirt (for lack of a better term) you can purchase. I chose the medium & let my kids share it. It... More

My daughter has really taken an interest in rocks and minerals. We got the large bucket and I couldn't believe the things we were finding. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Outside was a bit cold, so inside was getting crowded, but they kept things well managed. Our mineral specialist showed us what everything was and answered all of... More

We visited Doc's Rocks Gem Mine on a rainy day. There are lots of interesting things to see (and buy) in the shop, but of course our reason for going was the gem panning. Note, there is no actual mining here. When you arrive, you purchase a prefilled bucket and bring it over to a trough with running water. The... More

My kids (ages 12-22) all love going here when we visit Boone. Everyone gets excited when they find a particularly large or colorful stone. It's a lot of fun and it's best if you take your time and appreciate the beauty of each stone you uncover if you want the experience to last. The staff seem to be knowledgeable and... More

Fun place to visit! My wife has gotten into gems and rocks recently. Additionally, we had just been staying at a local cabin for rent, and had picked up some gemstones from the riverbed. We visited Doc's and had several of the stones cut for us. Doc did a wonderful job. Doc also spent some time with us and helped... More
