Beautiful and creepy...the history here is fascinating. I suggest visiting with a tour guide (check our Hungry Town Tours) to get all the local info.

You can take a self guided tour or have a guided tour. The graves are marked with numbers and there is a little story about each one on the pamphlet available at the Beaufort Historic Site. A great way to step into the history of Beaufort.

So much history. We thoroughly enjoyed going through the Old Burying Ground. We had actually visited the grounds before, however, there were no brochures available for self tours. At that time there was a sign that indicated that tours of the grounds were available on certain days and certain times. On this trip we went to the Grounds on the... More

I absolutely love this Cemetary, it is so old and beautiful. Take time to read through the headstones, let the history sink in, and just take in the peacefulness if it. I've taken some beautiful pictures here, so take your camera along.

We learned a great deal from our stop at the Old Burying Ground. It covers history from before the Revolutionary War and includes the contributions of African Americans that we did not know about.

An awesome lesson in history of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Make sure you get the cemetery guide before you set out on your tour of the grounds. Check out the grave of the girl who was buried in a barrel!

Where else are you going to find the burial location of a British soldier standing at attention toward his king? Or the final resting place of settlers known as far back as 1711? There's just so much fascinating history in this area. We've been to the burial ground one other time during a Ghost Walk through Beaufort. A great storyteller... More

You can wander around the entire graveyard. It is so interesting and beautiful. There are usually pamphlets with interesting stories regarding the people buried there.

I would like to go back and spend more time here. We had small children with us who lost interest very quickly and the mosquitoes just about carried us away.

The old burying grounds is a great place full of history. Theres revolutionary war and civil war soldiers along with many famous people from the Beaufort area. There's also the young girl buried in a rum barrel. Very interesting.
