Impossible to describe the feeling of entering such an old burial ground. The trees, the paths, how quiet it is. You can not miss this site if you visit Beaufort.

This was a real treat...they have a self walking tour the information is at the front gate. The history here was amazing, my favorite was the girl buried in rum barrel. The story on each one is interesting. The place it's self is beautiful with the old trees and vines, and the old grave markers of wood that are still... More

This was a stop for mom (me). The cemetery is lovely and full of wonderful history. Unfortunately there was no printed guide at the entrance when we stopped today, but it didn't stop us from exploring. My kids were a little wary as it is very different than the cemeteries in Ohio. Once they got used to it and started... More

We visited the Burying Ground after our Ghost Walk, where we learned about several of the occupants.

Anyone who appreciates history will make the Beaufort Historic Site Old Burying Ground one of their first stops in this very old coastal town. This cemetery is over three hundred years old! The land for the cemetery was deeded to the city in 1731, and many of the graves are from the mid-18th century. More than 200 graves predate the... More

Would recommend to visit if your a history buff. It located in town right between two beautiful churches. And it's a very peaceful little town too with great food and atmosphere.

We spent over an hour strolling through this cemetery reading the markers and following the printed guide to noteworthy graves. The trees are interesting also gnarled by age. Many graves are marked by confederate flags honoring those who died during the civil war. The sign says the gate is locked at 5:00 but when we were there this wasn't the... More

Walked through the grounds and it was interesting to see the monuments to many leaders of the community. The visitors center provided a brochure to follow along the self guided tour. The monuments of interest were numbered and a paragraph was written on each individual.

Make sure to get the free brochure that will tell you about different grave sites. Very interesting stories on many of the graves not to mention many of them are from the 1700's.
