They rescue and rehabilitate orphaned monkeys who were victims of the illegal pet trade, poaching, habitat destruction and exploitation. All too often these beautiful, highly intelligent primates become victims when humans and nature collide in a natural paradise like The Riviera Maya. The in-person tours they offer to help support the sanctuary are the very definition of sustainable and ecologically responsible tourism. The owners, Heidi and Joel, are a wonderful couple who originally moved to the area to retire but instead devoted their lives to care for these rescued monkeys. They provide them with an incredible amount of love, individual attention, medical care and specialized diets, all within a beautiful and meticulously well-kept habitat right in their native jungle.Visit in-person to meet the owners and the monkeys, view the facilities and habitat, and see first-hand the level of care that your donation helps provide. Be sure to reserve your tour well in advance, as they allow only a very limited number of visits per week. « less

My wife booked The Jungle Place as a surprise for my 12 year old. He was the only one of our family that didn't know we were going, although myself and my 17 year old didn't know what it was. It isn't easy to find and the taxi drive didn't seem 100% sure. For a while I thought we were... More

My wife booked this excursion well before our vacation. I was a little skeptical, thinking it would be an hour of watching a guy play with his monkey. Boy was I ever wrong. It's a bit of a drive to get out there but well worth it. The owners give you a quick introduction and the rules of the monkey... More

Our family of 10 traveled to Playa del Carmen to celebrate our parents 50th anniversary. While researching day trips, prior to our trip, I found the Jungle Place. Immediately, I got a resounding "Yes" from all and we booked the visit. The cab to Chemuyil was about 40 minutes from Playa del Carmen and the road off of the exit... More

I visited The Jungle Place this past Feb & had such a great experience that when I went again this past week & bought my whole family -- they all had a blast. It was great seeing baby Aurora too -- so cute & so attached to Joel. It's clear that these monkeys are well taken care of & loved... More

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to get a booking to visit this place and what an amazing place it is! Heidi and her husband and all the volunteers work so hard to care for the monkeys. On arrival, we received a warm welcome from Heidi who advised they were running a bit behind schedule but showed us up... More

My family and I visited The Jungle Place in July 2014. After reading some of the bad reviews and seeing the price tag for a family of 7, I was a bit hesitant to book a visit, but on the insistence of my wife, we did go. After being at the Jungle Place, I re-read many of the bad reviews... More

Let me start by saying I found this wonderful, untouched and genuine experience on tripadvisor. It is off the beaten path of 307 in Chemuyil, down a bumpy road. Do not let that stop you! You will find a lovely couple Heidi and Joel who have made it their life's goal to care for these beautiful creatures who are very... More

The experience of a lifetime. We visited The Jungle Place on July 9th. What Heidi and Joel have achieved for these lovely monkeys is absolutely wonderful. We rented a car from Playa del Carmen and drove ourselves there. It was no problem, about a 35 minute or so drive, a tiny bit of the drive is over a rocky road,... More

Our family visited The Jungle Place on 5 May 2014 while we were staying at the Gran Bahia Principe Coba. My adult son has Asperger's and he really wanted to go. So, we went - five of us - my wife and I, our son, my mother- and sister-in-law. It was wonderful. Heidi and Joel were fantastic hosts. Having spider... More

Like all the other reviews say, this place is amazing. Heidi and her husband are amazing people and you just need to go and experience it yourself. Well worth every penny for an experience that you will never forget.
