My husband and I went on our 1st time whitewater rafting trip with High Country Expeditions in Banner Elk today down the Watagua River today. The whole trip was a wonderful adventure from the bus ride, to the lunch by the river, to the raft ride, to the bus ride back. This crew really tries to ensure that you have... More

"WHAT A RIDE" Our New Orleans Cajun Country Crew had a blast rafting with Kurt, Jason, Chris and the others at High Mountain Expeditions. Our 2 days of rafting were fantastic, from meeting the folks at HME through the entire day, ending at the Valero for adult beverages and snacks. The staff were very knowledgable, professional and first class. We... More

Our family of 4 found HME online and had always wanted to go rafting. The crew were so awesome and fun that our day was the best. Our boys really enjoyed the water "gun" fights with 50 degree water against the other rafts in our group. Plan to be VERY cold, laugh a lot and have a great time. The... More

This was a fun day trip for the entire family. We did the Watauga whitewater rafting and had soooo.... much fun. There was cliff jumping and swimming along the route. We loved the water fights between the boats and the dumping of water on the guests. They provided lunch and snacks was available for purchase at the end of the trip.... More

This was an awesome time with our guide Jessie (Tater Salad), he was very knowledgeable about the water and traveling the white water rapids. We went 2 days after a rain, which worked to our benefit. We conquered class III and IV rapids and felt very safe and secure in Jessie's hands (raft). Would recommend this trip to any and... More

My husband and I signed on for the lesser of 2 levels of whitewater rafting on the Watauga River. It should be noted that the bus trip is 30-45 min, but our guide and driver kept us entertained with corny jokes and local lore. Music to get you in the mood but loud at times. Picnic lunch included at river... More

If your idea of fun involves frat-house-style antics, non-consensual dumping of water on your head on a cold day, and making fun of poor people who might have drug addictions, then you'll enjoy rafting with HME. We did not. The worst part of this trip for me was dealing with the obnoxious guides who dumped BUCKETS of water on everyone... More

The bad: 1. We spent probably half of the 7-hour day just waiting (at office, in bus, at lunch, and even once we were in the river). 2. All the funny jokes other reviewers mention? The ones we heard were almost all about poor people. The guides actually thought it was funny to yell Jimbo out the window at people... More
