A piece of history from 1817

The lighthouse has a great view of the island. The grounds are attractive and well kept. There is a small museum associated with the lighthouse. There is a $6. entry fee.

My sister and I visited the island over the holidays for a few hours. It is $6 for adults to go to the Old Baldy Lighthouse and Museum. It's worth the price, the small museum and lighthouse are very interesting. The climb is a doozy. If you are not comfortable with tight spaces, you won't be able to go all... More

The Bald Head Island Lighthouse (Old Baldy) has spectacular views of the ocean and island. Definitely a must-see for any BHI visitor.

Beautiful place. Interesting history. I would recommend this sight to anyone visiting the Wilmington area. The ferry ride was great!

Just a beautiful lighthouse on a beautiful island. It's a short climb to the top but once there you get a great view of the island and surrounding ocean.

Only 108 (really about 130!) steps to top so very doable and beautiful view of island. Interesting inside of lighthouse.

Bald Head Island is a wonderful place - no cars, everyone drives around in golf carts, some of which are limo sized. The lighthouse is a relic and has interesting history in the area. The short climb to the top allows for a nice view out over the plush island. Something to do in between rounds of golf and dining!

This is a pretty cool place to visit. Caution: there are a lot of steps and ghey are very steep. They do have a neat option where you can call on your phone and get a guided voice tour. It's pretty cool. Don't go if you are afraid of heights.

Bald Head is about biking, walking, beach relaxation, so there are not many "tourist" things to do. The lighthouse is a pleasant diversion. Make sure you also visit the small church next door, just to appreciate the views of the marsh.

We stopped in to see the lighthouse on Bald Island, but were too late to get to climb. However, we did stop by in the little shop and explored the grounds for a few moments (they open up at 5pm). It's pretty standard for a lighthouse, but it would have been more fun if we could have climbed it.
