Wonderful views from the scenic overlook by the ranger cabin and the firetower. The cabin has an exhibit that explains some about the ruins of the hotel that you pass on the way up as well as the story behind the firetower. A great trip- easy to moderate climb. Hike on a road.

My husband and I hiked up Overlook Mountain the day before my 50th birthday. It was the second hike of the day with a morning hike up Kaaterskill Falls which is nearby. I hike often but I am by no means experienced and this was a tough but worthwhile hike. It is 2.5 miles straight up to the old hotel... More

I know people have different abilities, and I consider our family of seven (kids ranging in age from 22 to 8) to be in better than average shape. This 2.5 mile hike is definitely worth the time and energy because the views at the top defy words. However, this is not an easy hike. The trail itself is easy to... More

Hiked overlook on a cool summer day with my father who lives in the area. He had done it a few times before (and many more times since) and thought that he should take me up to the top for the first time. Even though he knows I'm not the most physically fit person (see all my restaurant reviews to... More

For the inexperience hiker, like me,this was a very strenuous hike up 2.5 mile. There are almost no plateaus. Mostly straight up.

A view straight out of a picture. Drive or hike up the mountain for fresh air and a view you soon won't forget.

Worth the views. The hotel ruins were stunning. The top of the mountain worth a long picnic. If you are fit and do not linger, you could hike to the top and get back to your car in under 1.5 hours.

The stair stepping of the trail up the mountain makes it doable for even the out of shape like myself. The ruins of the hotel are cool to walk through and the view from top of the fire tower is the best in the area.

Oh, I grew up in the Catskills and still find the area to be one of the most beautiful in the world. I am currently in India but when I return to the States I will make my home there once again, what greater review can one give?
