The trail is very well maintained, more of a road than a forest trail really. It's very steep, so took me over an hour to get to the top and nearly half the time to get down. The hike up is well worth the view at the summit. Amazing vista of the Hudson Valley. Beautiful! More

Steep hike; well worth it. Could see miles and miles from the top. More

I've done it from both sides - about 10+ miles from Platte Clove road RT, or about 6 miles RT from woodstock. Expect to see lots of people from the woodstock side on nice beautiful days, no matter what season. Check out the hotel ruins, explore, continue up to the tower for lunch at the picnic tables. Careful of rattle... More

Great hike. 2.5 miles all uphill with 1400 feet elevation. Stay home if you don't want to sweat. There's a really cool ruined hotel at the 2 mile mark, and the fire tower at the top of the mountain affords some really nice views of the surrounding mountains. More

Our large groups of adults and children alike took to hike this tough mountain, but it's definitely worth it! The view from the top is spectacular, not to mention the old ruins of the hotel en route up the hill. There is a fire tower at the peak and you can see for miles - probably way into Vermont and... You won't find any switchbacks to get you gently up the mountain here. This is a constant uphill trek and worth every step. We climbed the fire tower and stood on the stairs just below the locked top level to gaze at the fantastic 360º view. We were glad we brought wind-breaking jackets so we could comfortably spend some time... More

is one of the most exciting and accessible activities in the Woodstock area. Although there are many many great hikes in the Catskills, this one is easy to get to and the trail is really an access road that's wide enough for several people to walk together. It's a 2.5 mile hike from the parking lot to the fire tower,... More

This hike is not for the out-of-shape. It is a serious uphill walk on a steep grade for a few miles. The walk up is not very interesting and there will be quite a few other people walking with you- it is a road by the way. The pay off is the view at the top, I just don't know... More

Spooky, cool, good workout. Brought my dog, she had a great workout too. I would say this place would be amazing in spring/summer. More

Went for a little hiking trip and loved it! As I had read on TripAdvisor before - hike is steep, not very easy. We did the shortest hike and must say, it was tiring. Also we were not sure about hiking in February - but weather quite warm for February, which really helped. More
