Beautiful hike originating at the KTD Monastery and continuing to the site of the former Overlook Mountain Housel, one of the grand hotels of the Catskills heyday. Stunning in the fall with vibrant foliage. Wear appropriate footwear at all times of the year and understand that there are real honest to goodness rattlesnakes around the trails and site.

A very cool, beautiful mountain with great views and interesting homes. Didn't get to hike on the trails, which I hear are phenomenal. Next time. We'll be back

Best views of the Hudson Valley! The hike to get there was a little strenuous, mostly because we went at a fast pace and it was a hot and humid day. The old hotel ruins were very cool and awesome for picture taking. We were very happy to arrive at the top where the scenic views from the cliffs were... More

Some earlier reviews made this hike sound super strenuous. Nope, I'd call it moderately hard especially if you're not in primo shape, but it's very achievable. Our group of moderately conditioned 60 somethings, took it a bit easier on the first half of a sunny day, with a few sit down drink and water breaks. I actually found it got... More

Truly one of the highlights to our visit to Woodstock. Drove past the entrance at night and the inn keepers told us it's a must do. It was well worth the 1.5 hour hike up to the top.

The trail is easy to follow from the parking lot, and it is not overly steep--it is a gradual climb to the top, taking almost an hour (or more if you're inclined to just walk slowly) to get to the firetower. There is an old monestary ruins at about the 1.9 mile mark, which is very neat. Just be careful... More

Wonderful views from the scenic overlook by the ranger cabin and the firetower. The cabin has an exhibit that explains some about the ruins of the hotel that you pass on the way up as well as the story behind the firetower. A great trip- easy to moderate climb. Hike on a road.

My husband and I hiked up Overlook Mountain the day before my 50th birthday. It was the second hike of the day with a morning hike up Kaaterskill Falls which is nearby. I hike often but I am by no means experienced and this was a tough but worthwhile hike. It is 2.5 miles straight up to the old hotel... More
