Whiteface may have made its name in winter, it has the highest vertical drop in the east, after all but it does summer pretty well too. The warmer months make Whiteface a natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and ages, whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush or just an afternoon of beautiful views with your family. Take a hike along the Stag Brook Falls trail or Bear Den Mountain, play a round of Disc Golf and check out the area's most exhilarating, challenging Mountain Biking terrain. Or gather the family for an afternoon of taking it all in with a Scenic Cloudsplitter Gondola Ride to the summit of Little Whiteface. Drive the Whiteface Veteran's Memorial Highway to the summit, and lean into the Adirondack breeze as you marvel at the world below you. This well-known mountain offers exciting and scenic runs for skiers of all levels: Beginners do well on Easy Acres, which features its own ski school, novices and intermediates enjoy Little Whiteface, while experts head to the heart-pounding summit.

I have been here a handful of times, and I never grow tired of the experience. The trip up the mountain is fun with great views and fun curves in the road. Plenty of pull off stops to let your car rest, or to get out and stretch and take in the view. Please note, the highway does have hours,... More

We did not know what to expect but was surprised at the amount of fees to enter to the highway. Then when we arrived, we realized there was an elevator to take you 27 stories up to the top of the mountain! Be sure to walk from the peak to the castle (or vice versa), wonderful views and a good... More

It all started with a drive along the Veteran's Memorial Hwy. We paid the toll to drive it halfway up Whiteface to the castle where we hiked/climbed to the top. Spectacular! The toll was $19.00 (for the vehicle and 2 people), but it really didn't matter to us a bit. There are rest stops along the way so you can... More

The views are amazing up there, you feel so close to the sky and away from everything. There is an elevator that goes up for those who do not want to climb the stairs, which can be tricky in spots.

We were staying in Lake Placid and popped up here one afternoon. The weather wasn't brilliant but we at least had views of the lakes below. Its a lovely drive up with plenty of photo stops and the long dark cold wet tunnel in the mountain to the cold wet elevator was good fun. 27 floors up and you reach... More

The moment we got there first days of spring 2015 we felt like time--travelers. Back to the 1980, the year of the Olympics. Almost everything looks and feels like time stopped over thirty years ago. Lodge, lockers, lifts, even score boards - blast from the past. Mountain itself is great, but infrastructure is limping. Gondola worked perfectly Friday and Saturday,... More

We spent half days at each venue (the ski hill with gondola, and the top of Veteran's highway) and enjoyed both. If I had to chose I would probably say the Veteran's highway is better as they are many nice viewing stops along the way and you are higher up then what the gondola gives you. Anyway, both were fun... More

Family took the gondola to the top. It is a great place to take a picnic. The air is so fresh up there and there are nice wild flowers in July. Your view depends on whether a cloud is there. If clear, it is very beautiful. We walked on the ski trails a little, but then we were heading downhill..... More

First, if you're traveling here and other Olympic sites, purchase the passport to save. I know everyone tells you this as they are trying to sell it to you but this mountain tour is like $11 per vehicle and another $8 per person who is in the car. The grade up the mountain is steep and once you're up there,... More

The drive up to Whiteface Castle is lovely and the views from the top are even better! Be sure to wear shoes with tread because some of the rocks have been worn smooth and can be slick. There are railings and some concrete steps to help you across the rough patches. The view is worth the hike!
