Never had this kind of experience before. we took the car up on the mountain about 8 miles up, and then we hiked another 1.5 mile to the top. It was great!

We drove all the way to the Memorial highway entrance only to find out that the road to Whiteface Mountain is closed because of construction. There was no mention of it on their website, not even a sign on route 86. We had to take gondola ride instead

The whiteface veterans memorial highway is a road with stunning views. Make different stops on your way, watch & enjoy the scenery. Nearly on the top you park your car and you can choose whether you want to walk to the top or take the elevator. Even when you are in bad shape/ reasonable condition: walk! It's astonishing.

The trip up Whiteface is a steep drive then a walk through a 400foot tunnel then up a small elevator for 27 stories. When you get to the top it is the 5th highest peak in New York State. Beautiful view if it is clear and well worth the trip

You travel up a mountain and go through the gate. They collect from you and give you a ticket and you still have a couple of miles to go. Very scarey ride up but worth it. Walk into a tunnel 42 degrees and take an elevator up 27 floors. But when you see the view it was worth it. $10... More

Really beautiful views and I am happy we went, that said, it was pricey. $17 for our small car with my husband and I. The road was very, very bumpy, which I understand it would be difficult to repair, but for such a rough ride it was a rather high fee. The ride to the top was pretty with plenty... More

What a great experience! Drove up the mountain, parked and then walked the tunnel into the mountain (not for the claustrophobic, tried not to think about the tons of rock over my head) and took the elevator up 27 stories to the summit. Unbelievable view! Terrifying/exhilarating to walk to the very edge of the summit and take pictures (NO GUARDRAILS!!!)... More

The gondola ride to the top was amazing with scenic views. From the top of the gondola ride we hiked up the mountain for twenty minutes. There were so many peaks around to look at. We will be back some time in the fall to see the colours. This was a great family experience. Note that there were no restrooms... More
