For a small charge, less than $10, you can do a 1 hour guided tour of the guns and tunnels. There is also a daily train ride to the gun for an additional charge. This is one of only 3 sets of British 9.2 inch guns left in place from WWII. Even if they are not open it's worth the... More

Visited on a hot 37 degree day, nice and cool under the tunnels to escape the heat. My 4 year old loved it as did my father! Great for all ages. Not pram appropriate but can leave in a locked store room for tour. (Saw other guests do it with younger kids)

Amazing piece of Western Australia's history and also an amazing piece of engineering. See how this facility formed part of the defence of fremantle in WW2. Volunteers are very informative. A little hard to get around with a pram, but the pram can get access to about half of it, the we carried our child the rest of the way.... More

A bit of a wait for the train to fill up, but once away it gets you to the hill faster than a bike ride. The volunteers that are historians on the place gave an excellent run down on the emplacements history and capabilities.

Oliver Hill Battery is the hidden treasure of Rottnest Island. The train is a relaxing trip to this sight. The tour is superb and I recommend this if you have the time on Rottnest Island. The guide Len knew his stuff and help make this an excellent tour.

If you want to have the best views of the island hike to Oliver Hill Battery or even better book the Fortess Adventures Segway tour. Hilarious fun to speed along sand paths on only two wheels and a stick...

The inland cycle isn't as nice as the coastal cycles, and once here there isn't that much to see although the guide and information on offer tries to make the most of it!

Great snapshot of history. Fabulous views across the island and a great train ride to get there. Pretty steep hill if you go by bike!

I ended up doing an unexpected detour here after cycling around the whole island. I wasn't planning on spending long, just a quick look. There were 3 volunteer staff members who were coming to the end of their day. They each had an infectious enthusiasm for the Battery and its history, & I ended up with quite a personalised tour....
