A sure way to escape the smog and if there the rain of Santiago, is to go for a hike in the Valle Nevado area. Leaving Santiago you slowly climb up the mountains through a well paved road and in a lovely environment. The cyclist slowly pedalling their way up, give you an impression how steep the sloops actually are.... More

Me and my boys love skiing. It is difficult for us to not ski from April through December. We found the perfect cure, skiing in Valle Nevado, Chile in August. I have skied in several continents and I have to say, Valle Nevado is certainly at the top of the list. If you have difficulties with altitude, be warned, you... More

Henry, Like many North Americans you've discovered how to get your ski fix in the summer -- Valle Nevado! The road to Farallones (Valle Nevado) is windy however by the year 2016 half the turns will be removed and the entire road widened and repaved (new pavement and wider turns are ready for 2014). Many people come for the day,... More

A quick trip to Vale Nevado is enough to take your breath way, not only due to the altitude, but also to the amazing view from the top of the mountains which are the postcard of Santiago.

I am an expat living in Santiago, so have skied at Valle many times. The fact that you are skiing in July/August makes the experience wonderful. But, you are still in a developing country, don't forget this fact. The recent completion of the gondola, is really a huge let down. The gondola seems to have been created for the influx... More

Jared, Thanks for your very detailed post explaining Valle Nevado from an expat's view; yes Chile is still a developing country and no matter where you visit you'll find a travel industry that is only recently understanding service. Nevertheless, Valle Nevado strives to provide its guests with the best experience possible. The gondola was built in part to separate the... More

It's not quite as good as Colorado skiing but if you hate The East Coast summer heat and can't wait for our winter ski season to return, Valle Nevado is easy to visit and the skiing is just outside Santiago, Chile. They have a good mix if terrain and the entire mountain is above tree line making for amazing views.

Valle Nevado clearly abuses its monopolistic situation of being one of the few resorts to ski in july. - Ridiculous number of slopes compared to any resort in Europe - Ski lift "vintage" from 50 years ago. Lots of time wasted freezing on the open chairs - Valle Condores condominium a joke (too bad I cannor review it on Trip... More

The only nice thing when you get up there is the view, obviously. I don't know how people even find this place OK. It's ugly, crowded, the food we had at the restaurant was nasty (you could eat better at McDonalds) just no in every aspect. Very disappointed. Go elsewhere, seriously. Do not waste your time!

Definitely dramatic driving up the zig zag road up from Santiago. Stayed at a wonderful B&B just at the tree line. Amazing. Snow is great. Bring sunscreen!
