While this is about 1/2 hour from the main LDS sites in Palmyra, dont come all this way and not visit the Whitmer home. Great spirit here and the displays in the visitors center are great for kids.

We thought we were going to see an historic log cabin, turns out to be a log cabin that was made out of old log cabins to replicate the cabin that Joseph Smith the Mormon prophet stayed in, and we had to watch a video on the Latter Day Saints. We were kind of hesitant to go on the tour,... More

Wow ! Talk about field of dreams. If you build it they will come. This historical location is out in the cornfields. (By the way I learned the shorter crops are soy beans). They just added an upgraded visitor center with displays and right now, a 3 minute movie not shown anywhere else yet. Truly inspiring. Be sure to learn... More

The spirit that dwells here is so amazing. It's 45 minutes from Palmyra but worth it I you have the time. When else are you going to stand where Christ's church was officially organized???

Worth a stop. We got there late. The tours were done for the day. We looked in the windows and walked around the property.

If you're in the area and like history, this is an excellent stop. You'll get insights not only into the founding of this particular church, but also what life was like in the area back in 1830. The log cabin and it's contents are interesting, the guides are friendly volunteers, and you can spend as long or as short as... More

There is a nice visitors center here, in which you learn the history of the site. Then, you can visit the cabin where the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized in 1830. It's a quiet place, located in a fairly rural area and we enjoyed being there. Fun to learn the history and visit a place where... More

The Peter Whitmer cabin is the place where the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was formally organized on April 6, 1830 by Joseph Smith. It has been rebuilt on its original location. The tour starts in the visitors center in the adjacent building. There are many pieces of original church art to view. The cabin is small... More
