We took our 5 year old son who has loved the Polar express movie for years now and our 1 and a half year old daughter. We were surprised to find that there was entertainment in the station prior to boarding, this kept the kids occupied during the wait. We purchased the first class tickets and were impressed with the... More

OK, I took my grandkids several years now and the train is OK. It really doesn't get better in my mind and my kids seem to get bored of the same games and too much time on their hands to do nothing. I realize this is family time but I would hope for some extra help from actors on the... More

I read the rave reviews online where people say they go back every year, so I bought tickets for my husband, daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters. Everyone was so disappointed. Maybe the people who wrote these reviews were in first class; coach was awful. It was a waste of time and money. The car smelled, it was cold, and you... More

It takes about 2 hours to arrive at Thendara train station (near Old Forge, NY) from Utica train station. It's cash only on the train at the snack bar. You're in Old Forge for about 4 1/2 hours. Wear your hat, scarf and gloves, it was 21 degrees F. There's a free meet-and-greet with The Grinch (at Shelter) and one... More

WOW!!!!! What an experience for everyone involved. We traveled with 10 of our family members- 8 adults and 2 children. To begin the night-we ate at the Trackside Restaurant,in the Utica trainstation. The food was amazing and the portions were HUGE!!!!! At 6 pm, I went to the ticket window to get our tickets! They were golden tickets! After dinner... More

We took the train from Utica to Old Forge. We brought a wheelchair for my daughter because he foot injury limited how far she could walk. The weather was rainy. It was good we had umbrellas for the brief wait on the uncovered platform. On the way to Old Forge, the train stopped because the rain and leaves on the... More

My husband (who had never been on a train before), my sister- and brother-in-law and I traveled on the "Fall Foliage Tour without a Layover", which left Utica at 11:30 a.m., rode to Thendara Station and returned at 5:30 p.m. (our trip ran an hour long, I think due to construction on the railway, but also the tracks were slippery... We took the fall foliage trip on the train. This one did not have a lay-over but we did get to go out while the engine turned around. It rained most of the time, but it was still a great trip, the colors were very intense and the volunteers were friendly and had many interesting facts and things to share.... More

This is a must for families and just to take a nice scenic trip! I took my kids on the polor express and it was amazing! The "elf's" were great with the kids and getting everyone to participate in singing the christmas carols! The best part was afterwards they had milk and cookies for all the people as they departed...
