We took a train and boat tour from Utica to Thendara and everything was great, except departure organization. Train is great - old looking and spacious with comfortable seats and standing carriage for sightseeing and looking outside. Boat ride is scenic and relaxing. Many train employees are volunteers and do not have answers to basic questions, like when does the... More

Beautifully restored train, running from Utica to points north. Great way to see the lower foothills of the Adirondacks. Lots of fun runs in the autumn and winter.

So for the good parts the volunteer staff are very friendly and more than willing to tell a story. We opted for the first class car with the snacks and the snacks were actually more exotic that expected and they did a good job with what the facilities could offer. For the so-so the wine tastings while good were so... More

A wonderful experience for any age! I take a train ride to old forge every year with my children. The car hosts are so friendly and helpful. The ride is BEAUTIFUL!

Took niece and nephew to experience the Day Out with Thomas event in Utica. It was my first experience with the Adirondack Scenic RR, after hearing about the event at the Oswego Train Museum at Christmas. They had a great display with an inflatable station with Sir TopshamHat, an little train amusement type ride that was free, shows for the... More

We took our 5 year old son who has loved the Polar express movie for years now and our 1 and a half year old daughter. We were surprised to find that there was entertainment in the station prior to boarding, this kept the kids occupied during the wait. We purchased the first class tickets and were impressed with the... More

OK, I took my grandkids several years now and the train is OK. It really doesn't get better in my mind and my kids seem to get bored of the same games and too much time on their hands to do nothing. I realize this is family time but I would hope for some extra help from actors on the... More

I read the rave reviews online where people say they go back every year, so I bought tickets for my husband, daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters. Everyone was so disappointed. Maybe the people who wrote these reviews were in first class; coach was awful. It was a waste of time and money. The car smelled, it was cold, and you... More

It takes about 2 hours to arrive at Thendara train station (near Old Forge, NY) from Utica train station. It's cash only on the train at the snack bar. You're in Old Forge for about 4 1/2 hours. Wear your hat, scarf and gloves, it was 21 degrees F. There's a free meet-and-greet with The Grinch (at Shelter) and one... More
