This place has so much potential! But most of it just lays fallow. And I am not talking about the dirt. As for the flowers and gardens, they are beautiful and well kept, but then you walk by all these empty buildings. You can't even get a bottle of water anywhere. There should be cafes, trinket stores, art galleries, etc.... More

I love Greek and Chinese architecture and history so my friends and I decided to visit here on the fourth of July before going to a picnic later. General entrance is free but you pay about $8 to see a group of exhibitions or $4 to see each of them. It is also very close to the Staten Island ferry.... More

I have lived on Staten Island for almost 7 years now and never took the time out to go to the Botanical Gardens at Snug Harbor. Boy! Was I missing out! The gardens are so beautiful, peaceful and serene. The landscaping is amazing! I have never seen anything more beautiful. It would be a great place to go with your... More

If you're on Staten Island, you should go see Snug Harbor. If you have any interest in Eastern culture/spirituality (or just beauty) and are going to be in the NYC area, make it a point to go to Snug Harbor and visit the Chinese Garden. It's incredible.

The gardens are beautiful. The Chinese Scholars garden is a special treat. The visitors center was not open the day we went, but we had a great time exploring the gardens.

If you or your kids like sailing ships then you will enjoy a trip out to this place which was once a retirement home for sailors. Lovely old colonial style buildings one of which is a museum on the theme of sailing. Be warned it closes early (around 5pm) so be sure to check out the times before going. This... More

Snug is one of those best kept secrets on Staten Island. We walk through almost weekly, as we live nearby. The grounds are beautifully kept and there are several museums and things to do on the site. We love it to much, we got married there in 2011!

If I meet another tourist who thinks they are cool because they took the staten island ferry and then the next one back - think I will scream. Ferrry - great especially at night in the back. BUT if you are coming out in the day - especially a nice day for God's sake do not be a sheep and... More

Snug Harbor was originally built to be a home for retired seamen, and its conversion into Staten Island's pre-eminent cultural center has been a long slow process. Over the years, I have seen the results of the renovation efforts come to completion here and there, and the obvious pride and excitement on the part of the people responsible for this... More

I found Snug Harbor when looking for a Botanical Garden to have my wedding. This place is just beautiful! The many gardens, old sailor homes, the ponds and greenery is just a wonderful way to relax for an afternoon. I ended up getting married here in May 2012 in the Tuscan Garden and had the reception onsite at the Grand... More
